I've got a whole bunch of absolutely random units. I've been collecting for years, on an off, but buying units I want to build and paint, not play with.

I had a workable army in like, 2nd Ed, but have no idea if anything I currently have would be able to make a complete army, let alone any meta.

Is there an app I can enter my units into and see if it can build an army from it?

Yeah I could do it myself, but 'aint no body got time for that!

If you've got time to type something into an army builder you've got time to use a pencil.

But yes, see Battlescribe or the GW app.

Ta.

The pencil and paper route requires having the books or files with me though

No, all you need is the internet- wich you've obviously got.

Points are free so pencil and paper is still doable:

Use Battlescribe. It has rules as well as point values. Super handy and eliminates most of the need of a codex.

REGULAR SHOW, FULL METAL ALCHEMIST AND ONE PIECE TROUNCES ANY LIVE ACTION. PEAK FICTION

We protect other species because humans themselves are lonely creatures. We protect the environment because humans themselves don’t want to go extinct. What drives us is simply self-gratification. But I think that’s fine, and that it’s really all there is to it. There’s no point in despising humans by human standards. That’s right. So in the end, it’s hypocritical for us to love Earth without loving ourselves.

So after downloading BS, I didn't now where to get the files I needed for 40k in order to use it. Seems like they were removed?

On the app (android) upper right there are 3 bars (next to the dots), click that, click the + button lower right and find 40k version 9.7...

Is it worth it for 10th? I heard it will be pretty easy, no apps needed.

We have no idea what points and costs will be like in 10th, so hard to say.

I personally use the army builder in the gw app, works well for me. Prefer the interface over battlescribe.

The apps will not really tell you what you can use your units as Only the rules (and codex) tell you that.
The GW 40k app and Battlesacribe will tell you when you have got something wrong, and might prompt you on how, but they will not tell you how to start.

Quartermaster is an excellent mobile app for just quickly tossing units into a list

Battlescribe is solid (though I dislike its mobile app)

If you already have things through Lone Wolf Games, their army builder is solid
