Hello everyone. Carthage Must Be Destroyed.

Here is another Kickstarter for waterslide decals, this time a more historical and ancient setting - This time we may just destroy Carthage thanks to the Greeks. I just launched a new campaign featuring Greek inspired hoplite shield decals. You can check out the full campaign here: http://kck.st/3WUWVDB

In this campaign the goal is to raise funds to create a series of hoplite shield decals inspired by the pottery, art, and coins left behind by the ancients. Each image seen in the campaign decal sheets were originally an art or pottery piece, coin, or something from or influenced by the ancient world of the Greeks.

A single decal sheet in this campaign contains 180 images. Each sheet is approximately 12 x 22 cm. The individual decals mostly measure about 1 cm in height and width but will vary with shape and image as seen below. The decals are small enough to be applied to most hoplite shields for 1/56 (28mm) scale miniature wargaming. Each image repeats 8 times and has two different colored versions per sheet, with the exception of the last grouping of pottery images, which we've split between both sheets. This should give collectors and gamers enough decals to create a lot of diversity with different painted shields in their phalanx.

Additionally, for this campaign's stretch goals we want to release some silhouette versions of the shield decals. We have seen both vividly colored hoplite shields in wargaming as well as simple bronze shields with simple designs on them. We feel that by allowing the option to have silhouettes will give those of you who like the simplicity of this style the ability to decorate your shields as well if you prefer to. Each decal image has two black, two white, two red, and two yellow silhouette shades. Again we've split the final pottery decal image twice between both sheets.

Here are some examples of single hoplites with several of the shield decals. They are all victrix miniatures.

And these Greeks decided to follow Alexander and hang out in Assyria for a time. Vacations are nice.

There are a lot of Greek options out there when it comes to minis and decals, so this was my attempt to add to the selection. Hope you all like the campaign and the decals and I hope to see you there! http://kck.st/3WUWVDB

I just picked up two sheets of their medieval heraldry transfers for my Bretonnians and was very impressed with the quality of the colors/designs. If ancient historical wargaming was on the cards for me i'd definitely invest.

Those look awesome! Love the sun on blue and white. Well done. Thank you for the support!

I try to change it up and see what sort of eras people may be interested in. There will be some return to heraldry of other sorts in the future, but I had to try some more historicals first.

Very cool. I hope people check out the KS page. There are loads of different decals.

Great job remastering these classic designs.

Thank you! I really appreciate the kind comment. I'd also like to note that the campaign has past its stretch goal of $5500 CAD and all sheets are unlocked. Now silhouette versions of the decals are available to pledge for. Check it out here: http://kck.st/3WUWVDB

Painted up these Spartan Generals and used one of the silhouette decals as an example. They're from Warlord Games, and are great models. The shield decals will fit on pretty much any of the 28mm Greek Hoplite shields out there, from foundry to Warlord to Victrix.

Thanks again everyone for supporting and backing the campaign! Cheers

You've got me for one sheet.

I've committed myself to learning parts of the wargaming hobby I've never touched before. Last year and ongoing was sculpting. Now, I think I would like to learn how to apply transfers properly. And this gives me an excuse to paint some wargames atlantic skeletons personally for the store.

Your transfers are very neat. One has to wonder what cultural references have been lost over time: I can see wanting to have a bull motif (be strong like a bull, yeah!) or an owl (Athena's favorite) but why would you want a chicken?

For waterslide novices (and even though I’ve done them, I still consider myself a novice) who have shields with a shield boss (that round thing in the center of a shield), these types of waterslides cannot be used, right?

Glad to have you on board. Thank you very much! The waterslide decals are very, very simple to use since you do not need accuracy when cutting the decals out. Just need to be able to slide them on the right position with water and then they stick superbly when dried. The WGA skeletons with their hoplite shields are perfect for this - so that sounds like an awesome project.

Good question! A lot of it was taken from historical pottery / art and some creative license on my part is included. Perhaps the owner of the shield raises Chickens with his family on some property when he's not at war? Doesn't seem very intimidating, I know! Maybe he can confuse the enemy.

For waterslide novices (and even though I’ve done them, I still consider myself a novice) who have shields with a shield boss (that round thing in the center of a shield), these types of waterslides cannot be used, right?

These particular shield decals would have some issues with shield bosses. If you had a way to cut out the center of the decal (which is possible but would take some know how and a steady hand to make accurate) or were to find space on a particularly large shield that you could put the decal on the side or above /below the shield boss, it could work. But generally the decals I have put together are more meant for the hoplite shields / anything flat (like medieval kite shields). Those work best.

Thank you all for the questions and for taking interest! Excited to see they're well received here on Dakka Dakka.
