Me and one of my sons have started to get into the hobby end of Warhammer 40k and are starting to move to table top play. Where we are we've been unable to find a local shop that has anything even carried, yet alone play. I've been following videos and play advice, but I'm struggling to figure out how to play and properly list build just for non competitive . My wife is starting to get into Orks and my daughter has said she likes the Nids. I've got a small Ultramarines army started (around 1100 points so) and are filling it out as I can. I'm on slightly older side of life and this is the first table top game that caught my interest and my wallet. I'd like to reach out and find some people that can help me out so here I am.

Since you're just playing with your family just focus on playing a small game instead of a large one, the less you have to work with the more manageable it will become. 500pts with a Leader and some battleline troops on each side would be a good place to start rolling dice and capturing objectives.
