Makes me think this will be as well regarded as David Lynch's Dune move. I'll watch it but I have very low expectations looking at the cast.
I'm surprised at my own reaction, it's not very positive. ( Don't get me wrong I want to be wrong about that. )

I believe Three-Body, by Tencent set a high bar and Netflix will live up to it's reputation of mediocrity. It's not an easy story and they unwrapped it quit well.
while my expectations are low I do want to see how it goes.

Interesting. I really liked the first two books (never got round to finishing the third one because life got in the way), but it is a bit more of an “intellectual” rather than “emotional” story, which is maybe what’s coming across in the trailer?

I agree about the book, more intellectual than emotional. The show I referenced was more emotional than the book or if it was in the book it shows up more in the show which I feel worked and I know there were other complaints that I think the show addressed, particularly female characters being one complaint I saw the most.

I'm not sure exactly. Mostly I think my view on the trailer is just because I have something to compare it too, the reason for the Dune reference. Back then there was no other Dune movie to compare it too and while I enjoy that one it's not the best of the bunch.
I want to be excited but I also want to manage my expectations.

Here's the version from China with subs.

Doesn't look worthy of Sagan's voiceover.
