Does gold rain out of the sky on the head of the poster? Does he gain the elixir of life? Does he get a cerftificate he can turn in to his GM for a free 1,000,000 experience points? Or $50 credit at the FLGS?

Perhaps more reasonably, does he find out that I exalted his post, and benefit in some minor way on the forum? Enquiring minds want to know.

Been wondering for a long time myself, pretty sure the answer is "nothing".

Anyway, both your posts just got exalted. I'm always happy to give meaningless praise! ;-)

It can also be used as a way to subscribe to topics with out posting in them, if you click on thread tools at the top of the page there is an option for 'My exalted threads' where every thread that you have exalted is listed.

I thought that the only thing you COULD exalt was a post?

or Exalt button at the top of this thread to praise the whole thing.

So apparently nothing happens when you exalt a post. That's a lot of wasted clicks and assumptions over the ages.

Exalting individual posts does count towards the total amount of exalts given. You can exalt a topic and the posts within it, they will stack.

I see, so they're for the greater good rather than personal glory.

More or less. There were plans to do more with the exalt system (although preferably without just turning it into a popularity contest), but other more pressing issues have generally used up Lego's programming time. So, for the moment it just highlights the good stuff so other people can find it more easily.

If the post exalts were treated as "likes" it doesn't necessarily have to be a popularity contest; as in showing up as a count under your avatar. Currently post count has that covered as you can unlock clever new titles every 100 posts. So spam away!

People have years worth of reputation I'll never best here with an exalt count so I'm indifferent to it as a reward. I'd be fine with it just showing appreciation for someone's post without a "count" racking up on your profile.

But a list of your likes, and a list of likes received that you can visit could be something people might use.


*EDIT: I should clarify I do not recommend changing exalt to "like", for the love of the God Emperor, no.

Hmmm I often exalt a post because it stands out as the one good post in a thread of dreck, looks like I've been unintentionally recommending terrible threads to people. My bad everyone.
