Hello everyone! So I recently decided to get into 40k and went with Emperor's Children. I'm an artist and a musician so naturally I think they're pretty awesome and fill a much needed void in the 40k chaos lore. The theme I'm going for is kinda like an 80s vibe Motley Crüe throwing a birthday party for Macho Man Randy Savage somewhere deep in the Warp haha. I'm a novice at painting and have done a lot of research on how to paint minis. Starting to understand things like dry brushing and thinning down your paints are really important. This is the 3rd marine I've painted, the first 2 are okay, but I tried some new things like flesh washing on this one. It's far from perfect but I'm over all happy with it and think it's decent for battle ready or display. Getting into highlighting armor and lighting effects has been really fun too, might try a few more touch ups on this one before I finally shelf him. The bases will be like old school grass/rocks. Any questions or tips, advice? and what you guys think is greatly appreciated. Looking forward to being part of the forum and learning with yall!

Colours and composition look really good. Paint definitely needs to be thinned further though... It can be a bit daunting when you're new, but if you are able to accept it taking three times as long to apply a later of colour, you will see a massive difference in neatness and overall effect.
Don't underestimate the basing either! Even just some dirt colours and static grass can completely change, and improve, the end result.
Keep up the good work.

I will admit, I don't see pink very often in 40K. It's a nice change of pace. I also like the green glow on the power weapon, very nicely done.

Great work so far, good to see the Emperor's Children in all of their 40k glory!
A tip for the pink: do it over a white undercoat, never black. Paint in general looks much better when it's thinned down, it will take a hell of a lot of coats to cover the black completely, far less coats to cover white.
Edit: Great Macho Man reference too

Very vibrant, looking good - the ornate head on the plasma blaster particularly, I think I'll try something like that myself next time I'm modelling something.

Thank you all so much for the feedback!
I realized after I posted that this was for completely finished and based models only, sorry about that. I see now after looking back on these pictures how thick the paint was! I messed up on the boots and did another layer and it made it so goopy looking, probably should have practiced a bit more before doing champion. I got a basing kit coming in the mail from army painter, looking forward to that. I want to try and add some random color patterns on some of the armor pieces before I varnish these so they're not so pink/black. Don't have much new to show right now. Have mainly been constructing and priming the rest of my army along with restoring a few vintage minis. Got a lot of cool stuff coming for you guys, Slaanesh Doom Rider and chaos lord, metal noise marines, the old Forge World Sonic Dreadnought with the blastmaster, epic 40k metal Fulgrim that I plan to use for lord/possessed champion, and some other goodies!
