I'm starting up a blood angels legion army, and I've decided that I quite like the warm red color scheme that Forge World used for their Praetors.

First task: figuring out how to replicate it!

My initial thinking is basecoating with something like mephiston red over a white undercoat, build up to the highlights using evil suns scarlet and wild rider red, and get those nice shadows by getting some more purple in there (possibly druchii violet? or make a shade by mixing mephiston with purples/browns and thinning down).

I'm gonna start mucking around and post my findings - if anyone has any suggestions then fire away .

You could start with a purple basecoat and then work you way up to the wildrider red, that way all your shadows are a purple color.

The main thing that sticks out to me is that the red has been highlighted with a colour very similar to the gold - there’s definitely a bone/straw tone to the lightest points. I think that’s a big part of what makes the red tone look the way it does here.
