I have been collecting 40k models on and off for years, i like painting them even buying codexes. I have never played a game but i am thinking joining a group to start.

however.. I am confused by the rules around mixing armies and I really hope someone can help..

reading:
New Daemons 10th Edition 40k Rules: Datasheets & Index Cards (spikeybits.com)

and: - So long as your CHAOS army includes just one* LEGIONES DAEMONICA Detachment, which accounts for no more than 25% of your total Power Level, every model within it gets the AGENTS OF CHAOS keyword. This allows you to ignore many Detachment Ability restrictions** when checking to see if everyone’s on the same team, just like Chaos Knight Dreadblades.

questions
1.) In 10th edition do you still use cp (command points) to purchase detachments ? for example Incursion (1000 points) you could purchase two detachments - so
are 10th edition detachments purchased (new ones like: Slaves to Darkness Detachment ) handled in same way? spend CP to use them?

2.) if i play chaos marines faction (not loyal to any god) could such a division include a mixed LEGIONES DAEMONICA detachment (nurgle and slaanesh daemons?)

3.) I have heard unless the LEGIONES DAEMONICA is the same god as your army faction you lose out secondary objectives is that true?

4.) what if you want to play as chaos marines faction (not loyal to any god) could you still take say death guard detachment provided its not more 25% of your army?

5.) If i play chaos marines faction (not loyal to any god) -- Could you take both LEGIONES DAEMONICA detachment and death guard detachment?

6.) linked to above question how does that work mechanically? for example do both the detachments share the 25% cap of overall army? or do you deduct 25% then repeat for the second? detachments. I hope that question makes sense lol

I know losing secondaries may seem not worth it - and maybe it wont be most competitive army but i think it would be fun to play

1 - No, you get one detachment now using one faction. In your case, it would be Chaos Space Marines.

2 - As long as you are not playing Death Guard, Thousand Sons, World Eaters, or CSM with Lucius the Eternal as your Warlord then you can mix and match Daemons.

3 - No, this is not true. CSM can take any Daemons they want within the restrictions of Daemonic Pact and you don't lose anything.

4 - No, allies do not exist in this edition so you cannot take Death Guard units with CSM. The exception to this is Plague Marines, which alongside Rubric Marines and Khorne Berzerkers can be taken in the same format as Daemons with the Lost and the Damned rule.

5 - No, you can take Daemons in the list with Daemonic Pacts but you cannot include any Death Guard units other than Plague Marines using the Lost and the Damned rule.

6 - You only get one detachment so this question is moot.

You can take Lucius not as a warlord and still have other Daemons. Just not as the warlord as stated. Daemons, plague marines khorne berserkers noise marines , rubric marines and chaos Knights don’t get any special rulers from their own codex. Also knights and daemons won’t get the dark pact as they are not heretic Astartes. So they get nothing but their stat sheet.

Just a thought - if you take say a squad of plague marines can you include a leader from DG like a plague surgeon?

and could you use leader from CSM for that squad?

No, you can only take Plague Marines and you will not be able to attach a CSM Leader to that unit.

I see thanks again :p

Is it the same logic for daemons no leader for their squads too?

And can daemons take elites, fast attack, heavy support?

You cannot attach any Leader to a unit not listed on their profile.

As for Daemons, you can take whatever you want up to the points limit listed in the Daemonic Pacts rule. This could mean you adding a few units of Minor Daemons or going all out and bringing a Greater Daemon.
