I made a lenghty video about my experiences with the Citadel Colour range that ran from 1998 to 2012, inc. a look at Foundation paints and the first gen Citadel Washes:

Would love to hear about how you remember this range, as many people seem to be less enthusiastic about this range than the white flip-tops!

I didn't like the change to the 'bullet' screw top paints. I felt like they dried out much faster than the white tops did.

Yep agreed. I've got some old hex paints that still work and yet all of the screw top ones dried up a long old time ago.

The lids were wretched, and a few colours were just materially worse - I remember Dark Angels Green having just awful coverage compared to the range before.

There were other ups and downs - the washes were actually quite good (but needed a little watering down), but the loss of the glazes was a shame. But on the plus side the metallics were better than the range before.

Overall I do think it was the worst paint range Citadel ever had.

Screw top are hands down the worst pot GW ever made. I’m still painting with RT era pots, but all the screw ones would start drying out the second you cracked them open. Not quite “single use” but don’t plan on using it for very long.

I used the flesh foundation paint; loved it for years.

I liked the old inks. Different then washes, but still good. I like having both options. Contrasts have largely replaced my ink use.

Agreed on the screw tops. I put whatever survived into dropper bottles. The metallics seemed to last longer, for whatever reason.
