So recently GW had some Boarding Patrol boxes to offload stock that wasn't selling (we all know it!). Joke's on them, I actually wanted Corsairs and Howling Banshees. I bought two boxes thinking to make a nice little 1000pt corsairs army, but I ended up with a spare Jain Zar. Do I sell it or conduct MAD SCIENCE?

Dumb question. Weird paint job incoming!

I sort of wanted to paint her like she was made out of crystal/gemstone, like an amethyst or light flourite crystal. I don't do a lot of complex shading/volumetric shenanigans, but I figured what the heck. INSTAR had a lovely color called Carnation Pink that was on clearance. Lovely color that works great out of an airbrush, but a touch watery when used with a regular brush. But since it's my basecoat that's not a huge issue.

But it does work great with Carroburg Crimson wash. Much pinwashing followed, and the armor panels were given a (crude) blend with INSTAR's Magenta, Coral Pink and Dark Green. I need to work on my blending/glazes, though I did really underestimate how dark and opaque the Dark Green was, I was forced to back-blend over the green with the magenta, but it still wasn't satisfactory IMO, especially on the Triskele. It looks okay from a foot away, just not so much in macro photography.

White edge highlights, white cloth and some gold detail work pretty much completed the mini. I did pinshade her hair with some Druuchi Violet to make it a bit darker compared to the armor, I didn't want to spend ages highlighting her hair.

I also want to point out that her loincloth is almost impossible to reach once the model is assembled. I was actually amazed how sturdy the mini was despite being supported by her hair, I was incredibly skeptical building the mini. The giant ribbons and her spear seem kind of fragile, though. At least her base is really bottom heavy.

The basing was done to match my current Eldar army so it doesn't look weird if I add her in. I'm considering doing my Corsairs and Banshees following this scheme, though the corsairs will probably have green cloaks/pouches/etc. Definitely not a speedpaint project but not everything can be a speedpaint project. I could definitely see myself doing some banshees like this.

So I decided to try a Corsair trial model, namely an Autarch conversion to have a Prince Yriel stand-in.

Just a corsair head and arm. Still having some trouble with the blends, I may try glazing with Volupus Pink contrast paint instead of INSTAR Magenta. I do like the green robes, which I just mixed up and down with black and white paint for the shading. Old school!

Particularly happy I didn't end up with derp-eye. Took a few tries, though

How the two look together. Jain Zar is huge by comparison. Her legs are like 50% longer, the rest is like 20% longer.
