So, in a fit of madness I bought two Boarding Patrol Aeldari. Each containing 20 Corsairs (so cool), 5 Howling Banshees (so expensive) and Jain Zar (so tall!). Looks like I'm painting a Corsair army? Or at least a Corsair contingent for my long neglected Eldar army.
Over on another thread I detailed my experimentation with pink paints, which was kind of fun. I painted the 'spare' Jain Zar, and liked the result enough to try a Prince Yriel stand-in (from an Autarch and some Corsair parts).
I still need to work on my blends, and I was going for a fluoride/amethyst crystal effect. Not 100% effective in my opinion, but I like the results. So on to painting some proper Corsair models.
Ok so the first comment I'll make is holy *&%$# these pirate models are full of character levels of detail. Even for Eldar this is a bit ridiculous. Especially given the amount of paint layering going on (basecoat, pinwash, 4 layers of green-magenta-coral pink-white to build up the armor plates, plus buckles, straps, cloaks and spirit stones. If you're planning on painting Corsairs, know what you're getting into is what I'm saying here.
And now my Prince Yriel proxy can actually lead some troops about.
Now because these guys are so complicated, this will probably take a long time and I'm sure I'll take plenty of breaks from super complicated pink armor. I do plan on using some Corsair bits on other units and I've got some older (i.e. metal, some of which is proper lead pewter) minis that would fit into a Corsair force really nicely. Given how few units can lead Corsairs, I might dip my toes into Ynnari as 2/3 of those units can lead pirates.
