So I'm new to 40k and wargaming in general and I don't have too much experience, I've played with a few borrowed armies and watched a lot battle reports but that's about it. I've been really interested in the Salamanders and I wanted to make this list after seeing the unreleased Firestorm Assault detachment and a drop pod list has been on my mind so I figured why not do both. It's Gladius right now and I might need to tweak it after the codex releases but I wanted to get some people's thoughts on it!

So the plan is to have a mix of the Devastators, Hellblasters, and Infernus in the drop pods while the Eradicators and Brutalis sit in the Stormraven and then have the Ballistus and Desolaters on my home objective or in the backline. Vulkan would be somewhere, I'm not exactly sure what to do with him because I took him since I had a convenient 80 points open and he would add to the fluff plus support meltas and flamers. The idea with the drop pods would be to have a highly modular force that I could modify who goes where based off what I think I'll need to counter from my opponent. The Devastators allowing me even more flexibility with their large array of weapons and I honestly just love them for some reason. In theory I could use my drop pods to either land on objectives and push forward with my marines or use them in response to my opponents actions. I think I have a good range of options with the units I've chosen but I'm open to advice! The gunship and friends would go where they're needed and I think the Eradicators will be nice in my meta of big knights and scary tyranid monsters. The units in the back would shoot whatever I can't reach with my reserves and that's about it. I tried to make a thematic list that also could perform well so please give any advice you want! Should I switch anything up? Or will it be less successful in practice than in theory? I realize I can't punch all too well and that might be a problem with how close I want to get but oh well!

If you want some punch and not just a lot of firepower consider Terminators or Blade guard. I'd personally go with a terminator squad or 2 because you get deep strike and range and punch in close combat
