Minerva Campaign: (Dec 2023). (Several small skirmish games of 40K and a couple of 1000 point games and a small BFG as well).
Minerva: Civilized World, Armageddon Sector.
Since the outset of the 3rd War for Armageddon, Ork Pirates blockaded the system and have faced increasingly sophisticated raids from the pirates.
Era Indomnitus: Two Firestorm Class Frigates carrying the Kernbright Fighting 7th Combined Regiment and the Dictator Class Cruiser, the Blessed Saint, drop from the warp into the system on a relief mission.
The fleet is able to reach Minerva safely and deploy the Guard regiment without incident, then moved out to hunt for the pirate fleet elsewhere in the system.
Ground Campaign:
-After establishing contact with the Imperial Governor, Commanding Officer Col Helmbrecht finds that the orks had launched brutal yet uncoordinated attacks on the world for decades, destroying nearly all planetary defenses and flattening several unprotected cities with bombardment from orbit. Ork tribes were threatening to overrun two sectors on the southern continent, while a mysterious plague and chaos inspired uprising were taking hold in the countryside of another sector of the northern continent.
The Kernbright spread out far and why across the two fronts, reinforcing PDF positions and conducting long range patrols in attempts to draw out scattered enemy forces.
What followed were literally hundred of small scale skirmishes across the planet or “One on Ones, as the guardsmen sometimes referred it to.”
After several years, the Kernbright eventually succeeded in stamping out the infectious plague and rebellion in the North after a Death Guard Lord was slain during a small engagement on Highway 81.
Fortunately, the plague never spread to a major city, though 1000s lay dead and many smaller villages and towns were utterly devastated.
In the South the fighting was much fiercer with several larger engagements between ferocious ork speed freak mobs and the Guard. In these battles, air superiority and heavy armor superiority proved to be vital to the success of the war effort as the orks relied on numerous light vehicles launch lightning quick raids and could easily overrun any ummechanized infantry formations. However the vehicles could not outrun aircraft and the vast open highways of Sector 5 proved to be deadly hunting grounds for the Thunderbolt fighters on patrol. Oddly enough the orks never produced their own aircraft in the war. Cause unknown. Perhaps their Meks only cared about trucks?
On the strategic side , intelligence gathered that the orks had never truly formed into a Waagh and remained divided, and focused on their individual tribes, which in turn made retaking the south a feasible process.
In the end, after several years, the south was successfully purged of the ork threat, though infestations continue to linger.
The War in Space:
Unfortunately, in the very first year of the new campaign, the Dictator Class Cruiser Blessed Saint was boarded by orks and was overrun in short order.Since that time, the orks have been working to convert it into a new capital ship, though the efforts of the two sword class frigates hampered that effort somewhat, buying time for the defenders of Minerva to secure the planet and rebuild defenses and infrastructure. It is widely expected that the orks will attack again as they continue to enjoy superiority in the void though that fact is unknown.
Minerva Current Status: Imperial Order restored. System remains blockaded. Additional reinforcements requested…
