Edit:
Having re-read the rules it appears I have been using them with 9th edition rules for arriving. It must indeed be 6 from the edge. I am sure this will lead to some discussion about overhanging models.
I have been playing them wrongly.

That's the thing I've seen. It's seems pretty clear how it works, but everyone i see people talk tactics they seem to play them as taking their movement from the table edge.
This is why flyersnot so great, you have no option but to start in reserves. But then by turn two at earliest you bring them on form board edge and everything has moved. So alot of the time the prime target is out of range form guns cos you gotta stay 6" to the edge.
So you practically are forced to waste at minimum the first two turns for them and they sit like ducks and often just get shot off the board cos they're sititng there 6" on.
There does need to be revisement for flyers even if it just they can start the game on the board.

Many of them can - it's called Hover Mode.
But really, range and sight shouldn't be a huge issue since Aircraft tend to have a lot of long-range weapons and you've got a pretty wide spread of deployment options to draw a bead on a target.
