I plan on getting the Astartes Infantry box and at least making a tiny chess set out of it.
I'd like some other idea on how to use the rest of the tiny models.

For the Chess set, I plan on using small buttons as individual bases
Pawns = Bolter Marines on a single button
Bishop/Knight/Rook = Missile/Jump pack/Terminator respectively on double stacked buttons
King/Queen = Captain/Command banner on triple stacked buttons

Probably gonna use tiny magnets on a metal sheet. Paint on black and white marble squares.

For the rest of the set, I'd like to paint models from each of the 18 Legions.
I could put about 3 models per base, mixing types, for all 18
For example:
--Blood Angels base could have a bolter Marine, jump pack Marine, etc.
--Salamanders base could have a bolter Marine & Terminator.
--Iron hands could have a Contemptor and a bolter Marine?

Or, I could ditch the small bases entirely and make a mini-diorama of the 9 Loyalist vs 9 Traitor Legions.

Any other ideas would be welcome

Another idea I've has is to create a 3-tiered stand/base with 1 bolter Marine from each legion, numbered in order, with empty spaces where the 2nd & 11th would go.

I think I'm going to pass on creating separate bases for each Legion and instead do a Loyalist vs Traitor Diorama.

But the first priority is the chess set, next will be the "one of each" Marine set. Then I'll figure out what to do with the leftovers
