DF are aiming for a March 2024 launch for the campaign and things are still in development…

https://gamefound.com/de/projects/dwarven-forge/starforged---hand-painted-modular-sci-fi-terrain?ref=search

…. currently DF folks have said they plan on it being much smaller than the usual DF Kickstarter campaign.

Edit: Live now.

Kind of interesting.

I'm guessing that DF is going to be both expensive and heavy in compassion to some other options...

Other options being at least two brands of hard plastic spaceship corridors (GW and Archon) not to mention 3d printing... Archon's was 25€for a solid 9x9" area on black friday, I don't see myself buying slabs of resin.

Dwarvenite rather than the resin of the older DF sci-fi terrain.

It will be heavier and more expensive than plastic such as GW or Archon. It will be less brittle. It will be available factory painted.

Every set of terrain has its pros and cons.

For example there are many great 3d print terrain designs out there. However, some folks like me loathe print lines (they are ro me what puddle bases are to others) and do not have time/resources to divert to another leg of an already sprawling set of adjacent hobbies.

The DF factory paint may not be fully up to what I want but it would be table ready until I got around to tweaking the factory paint to suit my taste.

I was not a huge fan of the old DF sci-fi resin terrain aesthetic but I like these. That said it will be a difficult sell for me as I have plenty of GW and Archon Studio plastic stuff as well as Battle Systems cardstock terrain.

Still, it looks nice and I like the thought that DF staff have put into designing it. I wish Archon Studio staff would learn some design lessons from DF staff on making terrain that takes into account actually playing on the terrain rather than just looking cool in photos. That said since this is not a huge Kickstarter I suspect it will have some of the same issues as Archon Rampart/D&L in not being comprehensive enough.

Sad to see Dwarven Forge is still exclusively whale hunting with their overpriced and over designed products. They started out with rather affordable dwarvenite tiles then decided to fire all their customers not making mid 6 figures by including magnets, lights, smoke machine and other crap.

Yeah, I remember being interest in there stuff for RPGs once upon a time. I'll stick with Archon Studios as I can actually afford it. (Even if I have to paint it myself)

Pre-Covid, before shipping prices knocked out creators making terrain projects, DF's high-end, high-price was definitely a good strategy. Dunno how many of you were looking for fantasy terrain then, but I've noticed a definite drop in fantasy terrain offerings since then. So DF stayed in business, catering to the whales who wanted their expensive BMW's, while everyone else fought for the "six feet away" gamers and, other than Archon, are pretty much gone. It's been years, and shipping prices still haven't gotten any better, so, while DF's whales can afford the college-fund shipping prices, cheaper gamers still won't support gamer-terrain. D&L is the exception, and, with their prepaints, it should be interesting how well they'll compete with DF in the future.

Woof! I picked up my DF (Fantasy) stuff back in the '90s, when it was between $65-$100 for a set. I had not realized how expensive it had become.

It never ends well

DF offers both the bells and whistles option as well as the more affordable basic sets.

Alpha Core Set (unpainted) 82 US Dollars.

I do not see that as outrageously more expensive than D&L.

I mean, okay, that's a low number by itself, but it's also nothing, a 6x4" room of 26 5 foot squares with the bare minimum of exterior walls for 82$, D&L at its most expensive (prepainted single set addon) is 106 5 foot squares with plenty of exterior and interior walls for a dynamic layout for $55.

As much as I love DF, I have to agree. For the price (unpainted at that), that's too little for too much.

There's sane pricing and then there's Apple pricing. This, unfortunately, is Apple pricing.

It never ends well
