I got an idea that could help make the game faster and have slightly less rolling, basically when you hit a model with an attack with double the strength of a model's toughness on a hit roll of 6+, you autopass the strength roll for that dice, it would be 5+ for triple and 4+ for quadruple.

It obviously punishes for having low toughness but it make sense in that the highly powered 50mm caliber would break resistances when it has a good shot.

That's already present with Lethal Hits.

I think it'd be much less mental overhead to just add "Strength is three times Toughness or greater, hits autowound."

But isn't Lethal Hits a keyword and ignores armor?

It is a USR, but you're thinking of Devastating Wounds for the ignoring saves bit.

Lethal Hits gives automatic wounds on a critical hit.

Ah I see, sorry about that.

The difference is that Lethal Hits skip the wound roll entirely, whereas NivNeos suggested that certain BS rolls will autowound depending on the strength-toughness ratio.

For example, when firing my BS 4+ S9 tubolaser at a T3 goblin shaman, I'll be looking for 4's to hit as normal, but 5's and 6's to set aside for immediately passing the wound roll.

I actually don't like this or Lethal Hits since the hit roll represents accuracy and the wound roll represents, well... wounding. Although I suppose LH are supposed to be critical hits, headshots, hitting vitals, etc.

I prefer to hit rolls to be separate, and then the wound roll should just autopass if the weapon strength is triple or higher.

Dakka's Dive-In is the only place you'll hear what's really going on in the underhive. Sure, the amasec is more watery than a T'au boarding party but they can grill a mean groxburger. Just watch for the occasional ratling put through a window and you'll be alright.

I agree with JNA. Just letting weapons with Strength of double or triple the target's Toughness autowound is a lot less complicated and will remove extra rolling 100% of the times it might matter rather than only a percentage of the time. Or put another way, it eliminates a rolling step rather than making the rolling step less likely.

For ignoring armor, just give your super high strength weapons sufficiently good AP.

. Psychic tests are unfluffy. Your longing for AV is understandable but misguided. Your chapter doesn't need a separate codex. Doctrines should go away. Being a "troop" means nothing. This has been a cranky service announcement. You may now resume your regularly scheduled arguing.

The game does not need more lethality. Why introducing such a rule?

The increase in lethality would be pretty tiny while also arguably reducing "feels bad" moments where a guardsman miraculously shrugs off your super high-strength weapon. I'll be the first to tell you that the attack resolution process is an abstraction. I'm not necessarily advocating for the proposed change, but the proposal is reasonable and has merit.

Nah. That would mean that damage would spill over between enemy models. So something like a lascannon would go from being a specialized weapon that does lots of damage to a single model to doubling as an anti-horde (or at least anti-infantry) gun. Lots of knock-on effects there that I don't think we want to deal with.
