I have always thought of Dakka as a good site with good folks on it so I figured I would ask here. I have found myself in a slump and I want to start a new project to help motivate me to paint more. To cut it short I have a bunch of half finished armies and a few ideas I want to do I just want to do a project log and I figured I would just ask the audience directly.
What should I do?
Finish my AoS armies
-Nighthaunt
-Sylvaneth
-Start a khorne daemon army? Got a set of blood letters on sprue
Start a new 40K army to juxtapose my Goff/dread mob Orks
-Ad Mech with a knight
-a Kroot warsphere attack party( those new Kroot bring me back!)
-a Mobile trans-Hyperian alliance Votann army
-finish Ynnari warhost
Olde World
-beasts of chaos
-convert chaos warriors back to squares?

That’s about everything I can think of, so what do you guys think?

You should always finish an army before starting another project.

Otherwise, that army will never get finished, and there is a better than 50% chance your new project won't either.

How close are your half finished armies to being “done”?
Are there any more likely to see the table and see play then others?
Who has the longest wait in the paint queue?
Which project has the most mindshare? What do you think about most?

Motivation can be a fickle thing. Find it where you can. I don’t have answers, but maybe some questions will help.

Sometimes you do need a palette cleanser. What about doing the Imperial Knight since you can use it with other 40k armies and it's a single big model. If you enjoy it you can go on to the Adeptus Mech.

Another thought is to start playing a game to focus which miniatures to paint. I've found solo miniature gaming (and proxying standees for Gloomhaven) to work well, since you can stop playing to paint miniatures.

Good luck!

Pick the one that's already closest to completion.
Finish that one.

AS ccs said, finish the easiest one, but nevelon's motivation comments are well made too.

Leave anything that says "start...." out for now.

Finish what you really like to play with (because fluff, rules, look etc.), sell the rest unless you really think you will need it. Do never buy more than you need/want/will finish

I would say convert your Warriors of Chaos to square bases. Then choose between Night Haunt or Sylvanth, which ever is easier to complete. That will give you two armies for two different systems. After that, I would choose a sci fi model as a pallet cleanser and do the knight. That would be my order of operations at least.

Honestly why not make movement trays for your Warriors of Chaos instead? Then they can be used for both systems?

"But me no buts! Our comrades get hurt. Our friends die. Falkenburg is a knight who swore an oath to serve the church and to defend the weak. He'd be the first to tell you to stop puling and start planning. Because what we are doing-at risk to ourselves-is what we have sworn to do. The West relies on us. It is a risk we take with pride. It is an oath we honour. Even when some soft southern burgher mutters about us, we know the reason he sleeps soft and comfortable, why his wife is able to complain about the price of cabbages as her most serious problem and why his children dare to throw dung and yell "Knot" when we pass. It's because we are what we are. For all our faults we stand for law and light.

Try something non-GW and not trying to be like GW.

Prepare yourself to having your mind blown if you have never done that.

Which of these unfinished armies would get the most game time? That's where I would focus.

Now showing a Harlequin Dreadnought!

Painting total as of 4/25/2024: 33 plus a set of modular spaceship terrain

Painting total for 2023: 79 plus 28 Battlemechs and a Dragon-Balrog

Really, Kroot army is a great project

I otherwise can't agree enough with Cyel and recommend you you hop into some non GW stuff, plenty of things to do too!

"The Dakka Dive Bar is the only place you'll hear what's really going on in the underhive. Sure you might not find a good amasec but they grill a mean groxburger. Just watch for ratlings being thrown through windows and you'll be alright." Ciaphas Cain, probably.
