Very sad. Ali's laser-cut card and MDF terrain is a stalwart of my own collection and appears a lot in Horizon Wars: Midnight Dark (frankly, not enough, considering how much of it I own). But his health has been declining steadily and he can no longer operate the workshop. Thankfully, he has been upskilling himself in 3d sculpting and printing, so Iliada Game Studio will continue, but the laser-cut terrain and miniatures will be going away.

He'll be running a 10% off sale from now through to the end of March, so grab what you can while it's good. If you're into Legions Imperialis, Battletech, DZC or, of course, Midnight Dark, please go and grab some. You won't regret it!

mdf is obsolete tech when 3d printing exists, as far as I'm concerned. It's terrible that the switch was prompted by health issues, but it's good that he's switching.

The old meta is dead and the new meta struggles to be born. Now is the time of munchkins.

For terrain, sure. Other uses of MDF, such as bases, I still think have a place.

depends on what you're wanting as the end result. Laster cut craftsman kits for model train can look 100x better then a resin printed model if realism is your goal.

I have multiple printers and still buy MDF terrain as there's times it's just what I want, and nothing similar/close enough exists as an stl, or looks better because it's a wooden structure -- and I know this is crazy -- which I like looking like wood. I don't think MDF is going away anytime soon either as while the market for it has shrunk because of printers the games I do play I mostly only ever see MDF for it as it's affordable and not everyone wants to buy/run printers.

Just to weigh in, although I am a fan of laser-cut MDF, it's actually Ali's laser-cut card that was my favourite thing he made. The kits are so light and slim that shipping is low-cost and low-impact. They go together really easily, are easy to store (because they're so light you can just toss them in a box and they stay completely undamaged), easy to paint and look terrific on the tabletop.
