I've touched on this before in other posts but now I've spotted this text, I'm really hoping someone can tell me I've interpreted something wrong:
Official
GW TOW Ogre Kingdoms Legacy Army List
available here:
https://www.warhammer-community.com/2024/01/22/old-world-almanack-download-the-legacy-pdfs-here/
Page 11 (Maneaters), right hand column:
“Those who spend years within the Empire will sport coloured breeches or ostentatious feathered caps and use handguns as oversized pistols, whilst those who do battle alongside the Orcs of the Badlands might sport colourful warpaint or cover themselves in furs and take to the battlefield with heavy-bladed axes.”
Ok. So the two examples it gives are fighting in an Empire army and in Orc & Goblin army.
Both Empire and O&G seemingly no longer have the option within their army list of adding any types of ogres (trolls and giants are still there for O&G) although both Warriors of Chaos and Beastmen can add (chaos) ogres I believe. This is despite the fact that the only available ally listed within the Ogre Kingdoms is O&G(!)
Ok so let's try to add some maneaters as mercenary allies to an Empire/O&G army. Firstly I don't think ogres are listed as an available ally to any official armies? (presumably cos they're legacy) but let's overlook that for now.
Within the ally requirements an ogre general would also be req and also 25% core (bulls / ironguts / gnoblars / sabretooth) to hit the composition requirements.
AND the Ogre contingent needs to total 1000pts to even be allowed any maneaters. Allies can't be >25% so that would mean the total army value they were part of (just to get 1 maneater unit in) needs to be >4000pts which would be a massive battle and v rare.
This is all pretty far fetched and not exactly the picture painted of small one-off bands of mercenary maneaters plying their trade far afield in local territorial squabbles within the distant lands of the empire and with O&G tribes.
It all feels like that bit of fluff in the right hand column is entirely detached from the rules of the game?!?!
