So, luckily today at my store there was a boxset of five Immortals or Deathmarks. I'm not sure which to make the boxset, but due to week there wasn't much Necron models at the store. However, I want to this year get a jump on my swamp themed Necron army, the question is should I make the boxset Immortals or deathmarks? I hear Deathmarks are good, but immortals can be accompanied by my Overlord (Wanda).

Here is what I have thus far, (minus the Immortals/deathmarks that I've purchased).
++ Army Roster (Xenos - Necrons) [290pts] ++

+ Configuration +

Battle Size: 1. Incursion (1000 Point limit)

Detachment Choice: Awakened Dynasty

Show/Hide Options: Legends are visible, Unaligned Forces are visible, Unaligned Fortifications are visible

+ Character +

Overlord with Translocation Shroud [85pts]

+ Infantry +

Lychguard [85pts]
. 5x Lychguard: 5x Warscythe

Triarch Praetorians [120pts]
. 5x Triarch Praetorian: 5x Rod of covenant

++ Total: [290pts] ++

Immortals are a far more versatile option, whereas Deathmarks are just decent at the one thing they do.

Immortals can reasonably slot into most lists whereas Deathmarks are more specific to certain lists.

Since you're just starting out, I'd say that Immortals are the way to go as you can adapt them to suit whatever you decide to build later on, but you might not be able to do so with the Deathmarks.

I really like the Deathmarks.
Only 1 shot each, but longer range, hits on 2+ (if didn't move), d2, ap2, and has precision (great for killing characters - and here in 10th there's all manner of bonuses characters give when leading units).
They have Deepstrike.
And they can shoot at things arriving from deepstrike.
Killing characters is not the only thing these guys do.
They will take a toll on just about anything you'd care to target with them.
Their DS ability gives you the option of keeping them in reserve for a tiurn, seeing where they're needed (either for shooting or secondary objectives) & then placing them to accomplish that.
And in the event you place them in a far off corner to investigate signals etc? Then after they finish their range(LoS permitting) allows them to still affect the game as they reposition.

How is any of that not usefull in most games you'll ever play?
Spoiler:
it isnt

Immortals get more shots (though 1d & ap1 & Lethal hits) & can reroll 1s to wound.
Their advantage is that they are a solid unit with the Battleline KW & thus you can have up to 6 units of them.

They are both good so there is no wrong answer. In the long run you'll probably want more Immortals though as they have more character and detachment synergy than Deathmarks.
