Satin? Is that the same as semigloss?

If it is, cant go wrong with Mr Clear. You might want the UV resistant variety, though:

Can’t comment specifically on satin, but I currently have some Rustoleum matte varnish, which is “ok”. I previously had a can of Army painter matte, which was excellent. Went on thinner and “smoother”? Not sure that’s quite the right word, but it was basically invisible, whereas the rustoleum stuff you can just kind of tell it’s been varnished, even though it hasn’t affected the colour or anything.

Using cans of cheap Spectrum varnish, I see what you mean, it sort of textures the model and give it a "smooth", glassy appearance. But I find it to actually give a nice final touch and my only question is how long that cheap varnish will last.
