I've used this forum in some capacity for 10+ years. OT used to be the home of political dogfights, which were banned, and then Video Games/Geek Media also received their own sections (my timetable may be off). There are now threads on the first page of OT that haven't been updated since May of 2023. Link: https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/150/809531.page

At this point why not just permalock the section? What purpose does it honestly serve?

The only way we can ever solve anything is to look in the mirror and find no enemy

We could have political dogfights again I guess. Given they are now faith based and not evidence based they would achieve nothing of course.

You know the reason we can't have political dogfights is that the mods don't want to ban as many extremists as would out themselves.

Posters on ignore list: 36

40k Potica Edition - 40k patch with reactions, suppression and all that good stuff. Feedback thread here.

Gangs of Nu Ork - Necromunda / Gorkamorka expansion supporting all faction. Feedback thread here

I don't have an issue with keeping this section. I guess the Geek Media section and Video Games section cover a lot of the non wargaming topics that people want to discuss, though I don't see much harm in keeping this area, even if new threads are few and far between.

I don't think that the date of the oldest threads on the page is a reason to close the subforum. If it was, Dakka should close the LOTR/Hobbit section as that has threads last updated in 2020! On the other hand, it has threads less than 2 months old.

Off topic has several active threads. To some extent, this is a consequence of the tendency towards megathreads these days. The firearm thread could easily have been dozens of threads with a handful of replies each instead.

I do find it ironic that this very thread pushed the May 2023 thread onto the next page Now June is the month for oldest thread update on the front page.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
On another level, I personally spend a lot more time in this subforum than geek media or video games, and it is 8% of my post count. I wouldn't argue that either of the other two subforums should be removed just because I don't personally use them much. Yet video games also has a thread dating back to June on the first page...

I mean, they still do occasionally. See the virulently antisemitic post that's still the 8th thread in this subforum.
