So I dug out an old squad of 10 chaos legionaries from my cupboard and decided to finish off their paint job prepared for the imminent chaos release. Looks like I’ve assembled 8 with chainswords and bolt pistols and 1 with a bolt pistol and a 2 handed axe and 1 with a bolt pistol and power fist who I assumed was going to be the sergeant. For some reason I didn’t assemble any with the special or heavy weapons? Must have been a reason for this but what I want to know is for 10th and the new codex about to come out should I give up on this squad as it’s now a bad load out? Replace just a couple with special/heavy weapons or just start a new squad as they have been assembled wrong? Probably didn’t word this great and hope it makes sense? Any help would be much appreciated.

Well, I think that the 1st thing you should do is find out what the squad options are nowdays*.

And by nowdays I mean what's listed in the coming codex, not the free index rules (wich will disappear the day the codex lands).
These options may be the same, might be different, I don't know. My book will arrive to the shop & I'm not currently running generic Chaos anyways - so looking for a leaked PDF hasn't been on my to-do list....

Once you know the options? Then decide.

Personally? If the options they're already built with are still legal in the new codex ? I'd finish their paint jobs & just play them that way. Odd weapon/gear choices will definitely make them "your dudes".
Now future squads? Those might get armed more optimally.

If you're looking for them to be melee monkeys, then they're armed pretty well. I might not worry about special weapons so much, in that case.

Thanks for the help, I think that’s what they were originally armed for as a CC weapon which I still think their legal as. The 2 handed axe was a heavy melee weapon and the sergeant had the power fist so guess their still good for that purpose?

Yes. The Champion can be armed with a 'heavy melee weapon', which now includes the power fist; one model in the unit can also be equipped with a 'heavy melee weapon'.

Thanks for that help. So the power fist is now just classed as a heavy weapon and the double handed axe is also a heavy melee weapon so all legal and not a bad little CC objective holding squad. Thanks for the help people
