Hey everyone, I came across an ad recently selling "fresh air" in a can for sixty bucks! It got me thinking—do you think it’s worth it or is it just a gimmick? On one hand, it sounds like a novelty item, but maybe it has some value for people in polluted areas or as a quirky gift. I’m curious to hear your thoughts. Would you spend money on something like this, or do you think it’s a total waste? Let’s discuss!

Well, many folks can benefit from cleaner air. No doubt about that.

I had asthma in my youth, and found breathing in London (densely populated, lots of fumes and nasties) much harder than the dormitory town (mostly sub-urban).

But…a can full of air? I really don’t see that making an iota of difference.

The same can be said of bottled mineral water. Sure, it might taste nicer than what comes out your tap, but the health claim benefits seem really, really dubious,

On a lighter note, I think someone hasn't seen space balls.

On the other hand, there are people who inhale enriched oxygen air in the manner one might do illicit substances for the oxygen high and you can buy cannisters for that.

But if you live in a polluted area you are never going to compensate for that with recreational dosing of "fresh air". If people are being sold the stuff on that it is 100% a scam. People with medical conditions that need extra oxygen will get an oxygen tank/concentrator, not be buying canned air.

I bought some of these in early 2020 for reasons you can probably guess. I didn't need them for that, but I've found them to be quite effective at getting a second wind when hiking or shovelling snow. They are virtually weightless and a nice addition to your backpack/go bag/gym bag. For my experience the large 10 liter cans are good for 5-6 uses (long pulls of oxygen until you are no longer winded), so the small cans are probably only good for 1-2. I liked them enough to keep buying them, and would probably develope a habit if I were still weight training.

A beer/soda can full of air probably is a novelty and mostly a waste. I recall the oxygen bars in Las Vegas and I imagine they are trying to capture that market. And its not going to help regarding pollution the same way drinking bottled water will.

At least bottled water is still, you know, water. The problem with bottled water is 95% of the time people who drink it could just drink tap water and not waste the plastic. Its not necessarily a problem with the water itself.

Canned air, that is basically useless.

Yeah. But those offer a constant flow (or at least claim to) of said gas.

A literal can of air? Do you even need to actually bottle it, or just produce a can and then wang the lid on it, find some idiot in a manbun and charge them through their ignorant nose for it?

Or at least enriched O2 amounts in the gas compared to atmospheric air, which will induce a high and can have medical purposes for patients.

Just canning unpressurized(or even pressurized) air is all sorts of dumb.
