Hi all – I haven’t played the game in ten years, but have been following 10th edition developments with interest, and am playing a 1000 point round robin with some friends in late June. I have Gray Knights plus some random imperials to work with and am brainstorming possible lists. Opposition is hard to predict.

I’m currently thinking about four alternatives, all of which rest on a core of (i) a Grandmaster Dreadknight, (ii) Castellan Crowe + purifiers, and (iii) a leader (grandmaster or Draigo) + 5 terminators/paladins. That leaves me with the choices below. I’m basically puzzling here over a few questions: is reliable teleport shooting from a grandmaster + 5 paladins more valuable than Draigo’s one-shot charge? Is Crowe + 10 purifiers overkill, and better replaced with Crowe + 5 purifiers plus a standalone strike/interceptor squad? How much is it worth sacrificing to get a sigil of exigence (as opposed to inescapable wrath) on the GMDK, when the GMDK is going to be my go-to option to take down heavies? I’d like to have some chance if a Thousand Sons Magnus shows up, or something…

Current list ideas are below (all based on 1.8 points). I would be grateful for any thoughts.

Grey Knights Teleport Strike Force Incursion (1000 Points)

Option #1 (GM shooty)
GMDK: 200 = 200
Castellan Crowe + 10 Purifiers (4 incinerators): 325
Grand Master (psycannon) + 5 Paladins: (ancient +3 psycannons) = 320

(a) Strike Squad (1 incinerator) + sigil of exigence on GMDK = 150 (995)
(b) Purgation Squad (4 psycannons) + inescapable wrath on GMDK = 145 (990)
(c) Either (a) or (b), plus change Crowe + 10 purifiers to (i) Crowe + 5 purifiers and 5 interceptors as separate squad (+5 points)

Option #2 (Draigo stabby)
GMDK: 200 = 200
Castellan Crowe + 10 Purifiers (4 incinerators): 325
Draigo + 5 Terminators (1 incinerator): 335

(d) Strike Squad (1 incinerator) + inescapable wrath on GMDK = 135 (995)
(e) 110 points of imperials (rogue trader squad, exaction squad, inquisitor + minimum henchman squad, etc) + sigil of exigence on GMDK= 140 (1000)

Many thanks in advance!

Hi there,
those are all decent units so its a good start.

Your playing 1K points, do you know what missions you'll be using and what the terrain will be like? Those two factors are massive in list building.

A couple of general thoughts:

Crowe and the 10 Purifiers are amazing anti infantry but could be a bit over kill in 1K points, Crowe and 5 will do a decent job into many targets.

Draigo is worth it - the charge bonus can win a game, plus he is super good in combat with the damage 3 that we don't have elsewhere.

I'd like to squeeze in a strike squad, the sticky objective rule is really useful if playing standard missions.

Looking at the numbers, Crowe has 4 Flame attacks hitting on a 2+ and the others have 2 Purifying Flame attacks hitting on a 3+.
That's 20/6 or 10/3 from Crowe, and 4/3 per other guy.

To kill a 5-man squad of MEQ, you'd need...

10 failed saves
20 wounds
12/5 or 24 hits
Crowe (10/3) plus 16 Purifiers (64/3)

So a whole squad of 10 plus Crowe will NOT kill even a 5-man MEQ squad on average rolls-at least, not with only the Flames.

If we add 40 Bolter shots on a 3+ and 4 on a 2+...

80/3+10/3=30 hits
15 wounds
5 failed saves

That should be sufficient.

But a 5-man plus Crowe...

10/3+20/3=10 hits
50/6 or 25/3 wounds
25/6 failed saves

10/3+40/3=50/3 hits
25/3 wounds
25/9 failed saves

125/18 or about 7 wounds.

Clocks for the clockmaker! Cogs for the cog throne!
