Atomic Mass Games wrote:After long and careful consideration, we are here today to announce the end of development on Star Wars™: X-Wing and Star Wars: Armada.
We are grateful for the community’s passionate engagement and support. Over the past few years, rising production costs, global manufacturing, and pandemic-related challenges have made it increasingly difficult to produce high-quality, pre-painted miniatures which ultimately lead to the decision to end development.
Although development is ending, we are not stepping away from these games entirely. Atomic Mass Games will continue to support tournaments and Organized Play for both games, with OP kits to be found in your local shops, culminating in the Open World Championship at AdeptiCon in March 2025.
Thank you for your continued support and dedication.

While development of these games is ending, and we will have a limited quantity of product available for purchase, while supplies last, the adventure is far from over.
We are here to support Atomic Mass Games through a farewell tour, culminating in the Open Worlds Championships at AdeptiCon in March 2025. This will be a fantastic opportunity for fans to enjoy these games to the fullest, with our full support every step of the way.
But that's not all- our dedication to the Star Wars galaxy remains stronger than ever. We are thrilled to bring you new adventures with ongoing expansions and developments in both Star Wars: Shatterpoint and Star Wars: Legion.

So much for getting back into x-wing, lmao
Edit
Any chance someone else will pick them up, or are they effectively dead? I know no one knows anything for certain at this point, I guess.

They're effectively dead. The product line is just too encumbered by existing product for future production to make sense and I'm not even sure Asmodee could sell them if they wanted depending on how their license with Disney works. It would be more likely they hire a new studio to run the games, but if they had any intentions of doing something like that, they wouldn't have forced AMG to provide hospice care in the first place.

Crap. People will start buying up the ships and jacking the prices. I seriously only have a few purchases I wanted. Maybe I'll get lucky before the end. Man this bums me out.

It was a fatal error to give them to AMG. I had stopped playing after the AMG changes to X-wing, but it's still a little sad to have it officially killed off.

I wouldn't call it a fatal error. It's not a mistake if the intent is to kill. Asmodee clearly no longer wanted to fund the game and just needed someone who could continue to milk it until every last drop had been squeezed.

Armada's big weakness was definitely that everyone wanted to play Imperial. Basically a one faction game for the most part.

Its a good idea, will see if its possible to have the rules here as an article just in case they do a better job of removing the rules than FFG did.

Very sad about Armada, which was a quite good capital ships game in a market with few of those around. Dropfleet Commander is still around, luckily.
But I bought into Armada with the understanding that it would end one day. It is the eventual fate of all franchised games. If you don't own the IP yourself, the profit eventually drops to a level where it isn't sustainable any more (independently of how the licencing works). And the big movie property games also rely on "franchise milking" - getting fans of the franchise into the game. Star Wars has been flagging lately. As has other Disney franchises.
That this could happen to X-Wing, a game that once had convention crowds and sales that current non-GW games can only dream of, underlines the point, I think.

Oh, yes, I loved the rules for Armada, as I am a fan of programming your turns in games. If it wasn't for the IP, and if it had actual models not pre-painted toys, I'd play it for sure.

For me, Capital Ship games are always +1
So even if they are bad (which Armada was not, even if the FFG upgrade card carousel made me less entusiastic about playing) I'll give them ago and throw all my other game principles out the window....

We just started Armada half a year ago so this is extremely annoying especially since some sets were already hard to get.

I like many people slowed down my play of X-wing after 2.0 was released. I ended up only buying one of each of the faction sets, but nowhere near what I needed for my collection. I felt they could have
done so much more with it, but trying to resale the same figures over again is hard, GW has a pretty good grasp on what to do. The new repaints weren't dramatic enough, but there were other directions they could
have taken. Like doing a version of epic like GW path of combining all their small game models into an epic-style game. They could have made all kinds of Star Wars army units and tanks, with little AT ATs selling like they were printing money. They could have used the movie Rogue One as a starting point and made all kinds of stuff. The other thing that was not done is to move away from pre-painted and reissuing ships with new bits
and bobs (antennas, flares, different style wings) to make the ships custom, or even include damaged wings and unique stuff, again more personalization of the ships.
Even with Armada I had a ton of stuff but traded it off last year because even at that point I felt it was an abandoned game.
There were only a handful of things I didn't have in my collection, but not going to chase after it now.
