From what I understand, Infinity seems like it might be right up my alley. For the longest time I never gave it a second glance because the models are hideous and I hate the style. I don't know if it's just that it screams "weeb" to me or what, I can't really put my finger on it.

So my question is for people who've played both games; could you play Infinity with 40K miniatures? Are there factions that could let you play using Necrons, Eldar, Space Marines (any flavor), or Tyranids? I have started 3D printing my minis and enjoy the digital kit bashing aspect of it so having existing GW minis that match 1:1 wouldn't be a big problem.

Let me know what you think, or call me a pleb with bad taste, either is fine.

The main issue you'll run into is base size. Most troops are 25 mm so you can do it with like, Guardsmen but Space Marines are much too big for the most part.

Let's say I model around this limitation when it comes up. Are there factions in Infinity that can translate reasonably well with 40K factions?

Not really. Infinity is more about future analogs to our current world. Space China competing with the Space Middle East and Space South America as opposed to 40ks future analogs of a fantasy setting with Space Elves and Space Dwarves. You could make something work but probably have to work to map it over. Like Black Templars might map okay over to the Military Orders subfaction of PanO which is built around the Vatican. In general though the game is a lot more Guardsmen level with a couple marines mixed in.

Ok, I was hoping it might be a nice alternative to Kill Team. More focused on the individual squad members than on a whole platoon.

Truthfully, Infinity is the number one reason I have no real interest in Kill Team. It's a great game that scratches that tactical spec ops itch like nothing else. It's theme just doesn't really have any overlaps beyond guns being the most common weapons, so mapping it over from the 40k setting would require a bit of effort.

I suppose if I want to play it I'll need to put some legwork in then. I'm surprised no one has ever done it before.

There is nothing stopping you downloading the rules and playing a few friendly games with a mate using 40k models as proxies, but the experience may not be the same. Just remember that there is a lot more terrain involved than 40k or killteam and never switch off between turns.

What do you mean by never switch off between turns?

Both players effectively have "overwatch" during their opponent's turns. Unlike 40k, where one player does all their stuff - like moves all their stuff, shoots all their stuff, does CC (the only time the opponent gets to do stuff apart from make an armour save).

In infinty, if you do something within LoF of an opponent's model(s) those units get to react - they can dodge, shoot back, hack, etc. They do this EVERY turn, and with each activation

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

That is not dead which can eternal lie ...

... and yet, with strange aeons, even death may die.

That does sound fun, alternating activations are sorely missing in 40K games.
