So, the Grim Retribution strat for the Unforgiven Task Force reads:

When: Your opponent's Shooting phase, just after an enemy has shot.

Target: One Adeptus Astartes unit from your army that had one or more models destroyed as a result of the attacking unit's attacks.

Effect: Your unit can shoot as if it were your shooting face but it must target only the enemy unit that just attacked it, and can only do so if that enemy unit is an eligible target.

Can this be used by a vehicle, say a Dark Talon or a landspeeder that is destroyed by the enemy shooting attack? Not sure that is the intention, but RAW, there is no mention of doing it after the destroyed models are removed from play or caveats if the entire unit is destroyed, etc. The fact that it takes effect "just after an enemy has shot" makes me think it could apply to single-vehicle units, but I'm not sure if this has been adjudicated somewhere before already.

Being destroyed and being removed from play are the same thing. The intention is for the survivors to get revenge for their fallen comrade, with the destoyed model unable to make any shots because he isn't there any more. This does not work on single model units.

I concur. A unit that has been destroyed lacks any models on the board to fire back with.

Plus, by the time you'd play the stratagem, the unit/model in question is no longer an eligible target given that it's no longer on the board.
