Subject: Bevelled Bases in 40K?

The bevelled bases that are used in Warmachine are really appealing to me, as I think they add an extra level of presentation to an army. I want to base my Kroot army with these 30 mm bevelled bases: I think they look great, but I haven't put much forethought into how it could affect gameplay, which I believe is on 25 mm bases if I am not mistaken. It is advantageous to me because the bases are larger and less Kroot will be under template weapons, which is the bane of a Kroot army. However, it is also disadvantageous to me because the bases are larger and less Kroot will be able to utilize cover, which is a requirement in a Kroot army. Overall, how do you feel about this in terms of my specific situation? The rules state that you may use larger bases for models, but they don't say anything really about the kind of base you use, so would bevelled be acceptable? - Oaka

I think they're excellent. As long as their size is the same or larger, I don't see anyone having a problem with it.
Go for it!

I second blue loki. I think they would look very cool with Kroot, and you've outlined the pros and cons already. Are these sold by warmachine?

many other companies make these kind of bases if i remember correctly. I'd say go for it,cause it makes it nicer than the sharp GW bases but like you said, the +/- are there.I think if you can agree with your game mate before hand,i dont see why you wouldnt be able to use them

Yea, Privateer Press (well, the plain ones anyway). You can buy a bag of 'em, just like the GW ones.

www.nexus-games.com I did a quick google search for resin forest bases, which I didn't even know existed. These were the best, as the others are far too busy and tall, they were more like display bases or I guess for wood elf wardancers, which have always been a bit flamboyant. - Oaka

I for one would be terribly offended and wouldn't play someone who was such a blatent exploiter of the rules...
Oops, sorry thought I was someone else for a second. (cough) snoogums (cough)
If anyone were to give you sh!t for a 5mm bigger base just throw something heavy at them.

Drop the personal attacks. Bevelled bases larger than the ones supplied are clearly legal, nothing is stated about the shape.
