Introduction:
Rules: Nuts! By Two Hour Wargames
Campaign/Scenario: Custom design, using guidelines from main rule book.
Weather: Snow, reducing movement and line of sight
Star Figure: SSG Rockstar. As the star of the show, Rockstar gets to have two attributes, selected at the beginning of the campaign. One is to be random and the other chosen. Rockstar was exceedingly lucky – his random roll was “box cars” (double sixes) – meaning he got to choose his attribute. This enabled him to pick any two attributes he wanted: Quick Reflexes and Rage.

Scenario: The Raid (From the “Chocolate and Cigarettes” section)
SSG Rockster has been summoned by Captain Lewis, the battalion S2. Lewis explains to Rockstar that Cpt Parmenter, an officer with one of Patton’s cavalry units has gone missing. He was reported to have been carrying some important documents, or some other item of great importance, and must be rescued. A local farmer reported that he saw a rather lost looking American officer holed up in a small cottage near a bombed-out village a few miles behind enemy lines. He was reported to be complaining about being out of gas and said he lost his map.
Captain Lewis tells Rockstar he has good news and bad news. The bad news is that none of his normal troops are available for this mission. They are too busy digging foxholes in preparation for the expected attack of the Furer Begleit Brigade discovered by Rockstar’s last patrol. The good news is that there is a first-class group of crack troops – “chosen men” available. In fact, they are all volunteers from Cpt Parmeter’s own F Troop of US Cavalry. Let me introduce you to them:
• Sgt O’Rourke: Rep5, SMG, “Greedy”
• Cpl Agarn: Rep4, M1 with grenade launcher, “Dumb Ass”
• Pvt Duffy: Rep4, M1, “Limp”
• Pvt Hoffenmeuller: Rep3, M1, “Languages” (Interpreter)
• Pvt Vanderbilt: Rep3 M1, “near sighted”

Turn 1: German Initiative
Germans: All three PEF move forward, but none are identified
Americans: Rockstar enters in sector #9 (lower right corner). He elects to go through the cover of the woods on the right. They immediately identify PEF #2 as a squad of 8 panzer grenadiers. Rockstar gets the drop on them and accurate fire from Rockstar and O’Rourke drives both machine gunners back. Pvt Duffy wounds the enemy squad leader while Pvt Hoffenmueller kills the enemy assistant squad leader. The follow up active fire kills an enemy rifleman and drives the survivors back.
Turn 2: German Initiative
Germans: PEF#1 & 3 advance, but are not identified. One of the German Machine gunners decides to “hunker down.” The 2nd machine gunner and the survivors rally. They spend the rest of their phase deciding who will be there new leader (squad leader out of the fight – and left behind - and the assistant squad leader was killed).
Americans: Rockstar advances and discovers that PEF#2 was just rumors. As the continue to move through the woods, they come across the wounded enemy sergeant, who surrenders. They also spot the survivors of the original squad. In the ensuing firefight (counting both reactive and active fire), Pvt Hoffenmueller is wounded as is two of the enemy; the enemy survivors drop back once again.
Turn 3: German Initiative
Germans: PEF#1 advances on Rockstar’s left flank, but is identified as nothing important.
Americans: Rockstar advances and takes several prisoners.
Turn 4: German Initiative
Germans: The soul survivor of the German Squad (a machine gunner) leaves the battlefield.
Americans: Spend the turn reorganizing and processing the prisoners. Pvt Vanderbilt is given a captured MP40 and tasked with guarding the prisoners. Rockstar and the others (O’Rourke, Agarn and Duffy) will continue with the mission.
Turn Yada.. yada
Although I played several more turns after this nothing significant happened. No more PEFs appeared and there were no enemy reinforcements. Around turn 7, SSG Rockstar found Cpt Parmenter at the Crone’s hut – bewildered but otherwise healthy. The following conversation occurred:
Rockstar: We went through a lot of trouble to find you. What’s so important about this package?
Parmenter: It belongs to my father, General Thor Parmenter
Rockstar: What’s in it?
Parmenter: His laundry (if you know, you know)
Rockstar and company return to their own lines without further incident, picking up the PoW and the wounded Hoffenmueller along the way.

The initial set up. White stars = PEF (possible enemy force)
