Silent king is Szarekh (Character) and two Menhirs. He does not have the Leader ability, but there is rules about him getting killed before the Menhirs. The stratagem Epic Challenge allows for targeting of character in attached units. Can Epic challenge be used to target Szarekh or not?

The Epic Challenge stratagem (and the PRECISION ability) only work on attached units. The Silent King cannot attach himself to a bodyguard unit and so he is never an attached unit.

Yeah, I agree, but I dont get why the Silent Kiing hast this ability if it cant bet targeted. I am missing something?

TRIARCHAL MENHIRS
If this unit’s Szarekh model is destroyed, all of this unit’s remaining Triarchal Menhir models are also destroyed.

Well, I don't see anything stopping the Silent Kings player from assigning hits/wounds to the King.

You might condsider doing that because the King has a 4++ while the Menhirs dont.
The drawback is that if the King takes a wound you have to keep applying wounds to him until he's dead (or Regens back to full)....

So the rule is there to make it clear to you that if the King dies his Menhirs are also now out of action.

If you lose the King you do not get to keep your 2 anti-tank rocks. :(

GW could introduce rules in the future that allow you to target specific models, or, more likely, they could screw up the wording of some stratagem or mission rule that ends up having that effect. They put the King's special rule in as a failsafe just in case that somehow happens. That way you never have weird rocks running around without a controller.

No, but also yes. SK is never part of an attached unit, so normally no - Epic Challenge would not work. Weird part is though, Epic Challenge just needs you to be in engagement range of an attached unit, it does not specify that you need to target it, so a multi charge can make this work (your character unit is in engagement range of SK and another Necron attached unit).

The Menhir rules are to prevent weirdness more than anything else. As SK is not a leader, you could reanimate him if the Menhirs persisted.

I concur. It prevents silliness like having the Silent King returned to a unit of Menhirs by Reanimation Protocols. If he dies, the Menhirs go with him and the unit is destroyed.

But that only lets you activate the stratagem, which gives your guy Precision on all his attacks. The Precision rule has no affect on the Silent King's squad because the wounds aren't being allocated to an Attached unit, so it still doesn't bypass the rocks.

Anuvver fing - when they do sumfing, they try to make it look like somfink else to confuse everybody. When one of them wants to lord it over the uvvers, 'e says "I'm very speshul so'z you gotta worship me", or "I know summink wot you lot don't know, so yer better lissen good". Da funny fing is, arf of 'em believe it and da over arf don't, so 'e 'as to hit 'em all anyway or run fer it.
