If I have a model that fires a ranged weapon with sustained hits 1, does it only get extra hits on a role of a 6?

If I give the model +1 to hit some how, do I then get extra sustained hits on 5s and 6s?

I am confused about the unmodified part and what that entails.

Also can I get +1 to hit from multiple sources or is +1 to hit the max?

If a model has Sustained HITS 1. Whenever you roll a natural 6 to hit, you get an extra hit.

For example, my Knight (with a BS of 3+) has Sustained Hits 1 and makes 4 attack Rolls.

I roll and get: 3, 2, 6, 3

Normally that would be three hits, but since I have Sustained Hits 1, the 6 I rolled gives me an extra "hit."

So, I got four hits.

Whatever the highest Sustained Hits trait you have is equal to the bonus Hits you get when you roll a six on a six sided die.

You get an extra wound roll from a Critical Hit.
Normally, that only happens on a 6, though sometimes there are special rules that let you score a Critical on a lower result.

Adding a +1 to-hit will NOT help you score more Critical Hits.

And you can stack more than one +1 bonus to-hit or -1 penalty to-hit, but once you've totaled all the bonuses and penalties, you cap the result at +/-1.
For example, if you're shooting a unit with Stealth (-1 to-hit) and the unit you're shooting with is a damaged big model (-1 to-hit from being below a certain wounds threshold) you'd have a net -2 to-hit. But because bonuses and penalties cap at 1, you'd only have a -1 to-hit. If you got a +1 to-hit (such as shooting with a Heavy weapon after standing still) you'd have -1-1+1, for a total of -1 still.
