I finally built a core of a Slaaneshi daemonic Legion for the Old World Army Challenge in 2023.

http://oldworldarmychallenge.blogspot.com/search/label/Frank

I had tried to build this when I was young, but lacked the disciple, the funds, and even the chance to buy the models back then. That effort went well and I completed around 7k in that half year. This year I am doing the OWAC again and am going to be expanding on the legion. Since the core of lesser daemons is already done, I am focusing on all the various hangers on, like champions, mortals, and creatures of chaos.

Anyway, here are some pics of the Legion as it stands before being expanded.

Beautiful work, everything looks splendorous and strangely alluring!

Thats a really impressive collection of really old and rare models!
Dont think I ever saw fiends of that generation exept in black and white catalogues.
Thanks for sharing.

The next unit added to the project, a contingent of skeletal cultists of Slaanesh. They are led by an undead minotaur champion of Slaanesh. The backstory for these doomed fellows had come together for me. These models represent what was once the Cult of Unflagging Revelers. This cult had been charged with keeping one of Slaanesh's shrines safe from enemies, but they failed and were found out by a warband of Khorne. The Khornate followers slaughtered the cult, and even brought low the shrine's guardian. Slaanesh was not entertained by this failure and cursed the cult to arise as the Unending Revelers, who now serve as expendable fodder in his Legion. They will die over and over to keep Slaanesh's beloved servants safe for a few moments longer. On the field the Cult continually dances and plays bawdy tunes, as they try to equal the rest of the legion in its joy at the savagery to be unleashed. But alas, they can feel nothing and being undead cannot partake in any of the pleasures manifest around them.

This stuff is super-cool and inspirational. I thought having three metal Keepers was a lot, but I take my hat off to you!

Thanks. In theory a Slaaneshi legion could have six Keepers in residence, so I’m still open to ideas for a couple more. There is an unreleased body for a keeper, with both claws reaching down. I’m always on the lookout for one to pop up sometime.

My unit of Minotaurs, The Pale Worms, began their career as a fairly typical warband of their kind. They easily could have ended up in a Khornate army, like so many of their kin. Their hunger for flesh led them to throw in with a Slaaneshi tyrant for the simple reason that gore-covered fodder was so widely available. As these giant beastmen fed their hunger time after time, they became more and more caught up in the other pleasures the rest of the army was taking part in around them. Before long they were disporting themselves with abandon, while also beautifying themselves with inks, dyes, and tattoos to match their new comrades. By the time they were inducted into a daemonic Legion of Slaanesh, The Pale Worms were entirely unhinged, with a monstrous hunger both cannibalistic and debauched.

The harpies role in the legion is pretty sad. No doubt they were flattered and seduced by the Daemonettes to participate, by playing to their vanity. Alas, they have little to no combat value on a daemonic battlefield but do bring other useful traits. First and foremost they have wings, which are relatively rare in a Slaaneshi legion, seen most consistently on the Legion's daemon princes. The other trait is that they are absurdly cheap. The entire flock of six literally costs less than a single Daemonette. Now Khornate legions are led by the dreaded Bloodthirsters, who, of course, fly. They also include blasphemous technological weapons capable of shooting down our mighty daemon princes before they can charge their chosen targets. The harpies positive traits combine to solve this problem by being an expendable screen of ablative meat to ensure my daemon prince gets his moment to shine.

Amazing eighties vibe, you truly do the models justice. Since you put the models on round bases, what game system are you painting this army for?

Thanks. The army is being built for the Realm of Chaos Slaves to Darkness Daemonic Legion list, which is the OG appearance of a daemonic legion in Warhammer. I put them on mainly 25mm circles so that I can use them in multiple systems. When they are placed in inserts they work for Warhammer Fantasy Battle (really any edition), and in different base inserts they can play Kings of War or modern 40k. Without their base inserts they work in original 40k Rogue Trader, or games like Xenos Rampant.
