A question The Rewards Of Treachery and if my new best friends can take their dedicated transport.

The controlling player of a Detachment that has the Legiones Astartes (Alpha Legion) Faction may select a single variant of the Legiones Astartes (X) special rule other than Legiones Astartes (Alpha Legion) when forming the Detachment during army selection. That Detachment may include a single unit that is normally only available to Detachments with the variant of the Legiones Astartes (X) special rule that was selected.

A unit may only be selected if all models in that unit possess the Legiones Astartes (X) special rule, and no unit may be selected that includes any models with the Unique Unit Sub-type.

Any unit selected using this special rule is paid for from the army’s points total and using Force Organisation slots as part of that Detachment as dictated by the unit’s profile. However, all of the models in the selected unit exchange their original Legiones Astartes (X) special rule for the Legiones Astartes (Alpha Legion) special rule.

Let's say I want to take Templar Brethren from the Imperial Fists. Does this allow me to take one of these dedicated transports as part of the unit?

Dedicated Transport
A Templar Brethren unit may take a Legion Rhino Transport or a Legion Land Raider Proteus Carrier as a Dedicated Transport. As a Dedicated Transport, this does not use up an additional Force Organisation slot, but its points cost must still be paid for as part of the army.

Just stumbling through building a small force. I own the greatest 30k models (which are all AL) so I thought, "why not?"

Dedicated don't take up slots, afaik that means they are attached to the unit taking them.

And since you are taking a specific unit and just using the options of said unit (which include a dedicated transport normally available to all Marines) i'd say you would be allowed to do so.

Alternativly, if you say small force, you can just use the HS slot to add in a proteus carrier squadron, which incidentally isn't a half bad option.

A Mostly Renegades and Heretics blog.
GW:"Space marines got too many options to balance, therefore we decided to legends HH units."
Players: "why?!? Now we finally got decent plastic kits and you cut them?"
Chaos marines players: "Since when are Daemonengines 30k models and why do i have NO droppods now?"
GW" MONEY.... erm i meant TOO MANY OPTIONS (to resell your army to you again by disalowing former units)! Do you want specific tyranid fighiting Primaris? Even a new sabotage lieutnant!"
Chaos players: Guess i stop playing or go to HH.

yeah, the transport is part of the unit, so unless there's something that restricts taking transports, it's fine

Not to be pedantic but it's absolutely not part of the unit, and the rulebooks very specifically state that.

With that said, I'd hard agree that you can take the dedicated transport. It's very much just an option available to the squad, and you are allowed to take options and such.
