I've been picking away at some work on 2nd edition. There are a few things I can't seem to account for, and one of them is why the heck an Eldar Exarch can have 2 deathspinners (another is the pricing of the Razorback, which makes no sense). In this edition, the deathspinner is a template weapon, so it makes no sense why you would have two of them. Ignoring the fact that firing multiple weapons was basically not a thing for non-vehicles (with very few exceptions), it's not like in some later editions where this would just have extra attacks or something. And it's not a close combat weapon that would give you an extra Attack in hand-to-hand combat. You simply could not use the second deathspinner, so why is it there?

Was this ever brought up in White Dwarf or anywhere else? Does anyone know what this is about? Am I missing something?

The FAQ quoted in the old battle bible was :

Q2. How many shots does a Warp Spider Exarch have, since he has two Deathspinners?
A. He can only fire once, but the two Deathspinners allow him to use the Fast Shot Exarch power (giving him two shots).

Note that you could still shoot the same weapon twice...

honestly, I would just let the exarch fire both, its a friendly game after all, but then again, I'm also the kind of person who like.. if you had your space marine captain with a lascannon, I'd allow it, since it was allowed in RT.
