Hi all and welcome onboard !

Recently got back to the hobby after a decade or so . .
This is the second thing that my teenage self never got to achieve back in the days, creating a PM blog on Dakka ! The first was to rebuild the Scythes of the Emperor chapter and guess what ? that's exactly what i'm currently doing .

Back in the days they were some obscure chapter with very limited - but insanely cool - lore, nowadays eh, not so much.
My take on them focus on them just post the fall of Sotha ( their homeworld before being nom'd by Hive Fleet Kraken)
I try to add a greco/thracian vibe to them as there were some references back in the days and i'm deeply influenced by their old Lore..

thing is 15 years is a long time and well GW improved its model line, while the new primaris lore is not my thing ( especially concerning the scythes) the true scale model are quite cool. so to me that's what they are, not primaris per se but true scale Space marines and I try to emphasize that through kitbashing and conversions !

hope you'll like the ride and the models, and remember all constructive criticism is more than welcome ! I know i'm not the best painter around so any tips and advice are always a source of improvement !

First, they came for our world..We fought them with the bravado of young warriors, they had come to us, to dear Sotha like ravenous insects and we were ready to squash them.. but we were humbled, and sent reeling to a backwater world to lick our wounds while our home was desecrated .. Chapter master Thorcyra didn't heed our words, our plight to salvage what we could and move on quick..
On Miral, they came for us.. Thorcyra didn't think they'd follow us, he believed they'd be too busy consuming our homeworld to care about us.. he was wrong and paid it with his life. Thracian believed we could rebuild our strength, we could overcome this as he managed to secure our gene site vault.. no one could have known that in fact they first came for our people..

So here's my captain in terminator armour, converted from the Leviathan box, he wields a combi stormflammer and what might be the emperor scythe ( an old relic serving as badge of office for the chapter master ) if that is indeed the case nobody knows if he keeps it for safe keeping for chapter master Thracian or if he claimed it for himself.. on his back banner are a few memento mori, a pelte *shield* nod to the greco/thracian vibe and also to their Sothan auxiliairy force - basicaly their PDF- which is another project of mine ! and also a saguinary mortuary mask paying tribute to the lamenters that were on Kraken path during their penitent crusade

After the Fall of Sotha and Miral, the +/-300 battle brother left were organised into a single battle company my headcanon is that after a while this battle company was subdivised into largely independant forces in order to cover more ground to rebuild their strenght faster.

back in the days Mark Gibbons did some incredible artwork of a librarian that would be tapped to the hive mind in order to better analyse and predict it. it was never properly used but I recalled some old conversion I had seen on the internet. So I decided to have a go at it !
funnily enough at the same time this incredible fellow had the same idea.

After Miral and the Scythes last stand at the Giant's Coffin the scythes were virtually wiped out, not only they had roughly 300 battle brothers left, most of them horrificaly wounded, their chain of command was obliterated, Thracian was the only remaining captain alive and de-facto chapter master. he did manage to secure a good chunk of geneseed that he brought alongside with him from Sotha but adding insult to injury, turned out most of it was corrupted because 80% of the remaining Sothan population who fled with their overlord were in fact secretly part of a genestealer cult. Most of the sothan inductees are infected with the genestealer's kiss as well but due to Astartes physionomy most of them aren't really impacted by it.. most.. so yeah some cabal of genestealers space marine hybrid was canon at the time and they did manage to desecrate a good part of the remaining pure geneseed before being uncovered and dispatched..

Do you remember the days when terminator armour were a rarity in the 41st millenia ? Except for primogenitor chapter who could theoritically still field an entire company worth of them, for most of the successor chapter they could consider themselves lucky if they could field even a single squad !
not much is known about the Scythes' first company before the fall of Sotha but at one point, it is said that they only managed to retain and / or salvage three full suit of tactical dreadnought armour and enough part to hopefully repair a fourth ..

some are mixing different part from different pattern, emphasizing the salvaged nature of their suits. custom made, bashed together from their regular kit, their relicary and even some recovered part on derelict hive ships.
some are sporting some heavy field repairs / trophies taken from the hated Foe.

the idea behind them was that each battle brother is a unique named character, veteran from countless battles even before their greatest ordeal and as such their armour had to be unique as well .
however they had to fit and blend together.. while it is true that each space marine is a hero in his own right they have always been more about brotherood than individual prowess.

I always loved the baroque and gothic aesthetic of old 40K artwork full of mysticism and ornate details so yeahn i had to bling them out !

I remember everything..I remember the lush forests, the heaps of grass around the keep.. I remember the feeling of the scythe and the heft of it on my hands. I remember the scorching heat on my skin, the sweat on my brows and the laughter of our subjects seeing demi gods of war struggling to contain folliage.. those were happy days and they have robbed me . they have robbed us.. never more our scythes will cut through grass.. Chitin and blood will have to suffice ..we will never stop and we will never lay them down while a single of these foul inscets live.

and this is my very last model after having completed my leviathan set !
pet project of mine, you can still identify the imperial parts of it yet the technology is not quite anti grav like from the land speeders or repulsors.. I'd like to think that they might have found some interesting tech inside the pharos and managed somewhat to reverse engineer it.

main inspiration were the overcraft from the Matrix
