Hi All,

Just thought I'd start a thread on this game, as it seems of particular interest to Wargamers and a demo has just been released in the last few days.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/3064810/Strategos/

On first inspection it looks like Rome Total War, which OK yes is a great game and I wouldn't mind playing more of that with a bit better historical researched factions.

However, when you see it being played it is a lot more like Field of Glory, with disorder and pushbacks and the like. So far so good, Field of Glory II has been one of my favourite games for the last 5 years!

It also has some cool mechanics from Wargaming mixed in. Units outside the generals command radius need to receive orders by courier which delays their implementation (and potentially can be intercepted? I'm not sure yet), units in combat can be instructed to push hard or fall back to create gaps in an opponents line and there is the implementation of "pulse theory" in the battles where units periodically break off melee to take a breather, exchange insults and missiles or drag the wounded away.

So in conclusion, the game looks like an interesting mix of concepts and mechanics from some great ancients games with some other cool Wargaming mechanics added in. Definitely worth a look I'd say!

A Mostly Renegades and Heretics blog.
GW:"Space marines got too many options to balance, therefore we decided to legends HH units."
Players: "why?!? Now we finally got decent plastic kits and you cut them?"
Chaos marines players: "Since when are Daemonengines 30k models and why do i have NO droppods now?"
GW" MONEY.... erm i meant TOO MANY OPTIONS (to resell your army to you again by disalowing former units)! Do you want specific tyranid fighiting Primaris? Even a new sabotage lieutnant!"
Chaos players: Guess i stop playing or go to HH.

Interesting - be nice to see some competition in the rank-and-file realtime market to compete and challenge Total War

And to see a mass battle game that isn't just "spawns billions of identical units that just charge mindlessly forward" which a few of those mass-battle simulators basically are.

3D Printing, hobbying and model fun!
