Silver Fox Productions and RAFM Miniatures Closing
With heavy hearts we share the news that Silver Fox Productions and RAFM Miniatures is closing. Having served the gaming and miniature hobby industry for 50 years, we are left with many fond memories and much gratitude to have worked in and contributed to an industry we love for so long.
After taking most of the month of April to empty out our space, the physical location of Silver Fox / RAFM Miniatures has finally been emptied.
We’ve incurred substantial costs in storage and waste containers - fifty years of gaming materials fill a large bin, let us assure you!
To try and recoup these significant closing costs we’ve activated some digital products on our site at rafm.com
https://rafm.com/collections/frontpage
https://rafm.com/products/raf00020
https://rafm.com/products/car-leonis-15mm-troops-zip
These items will be expanded upon to include mostly our 15mm sci-fi items that were digitally produced and possibly some fantasy items as well. These will be available under a 3D printing license for personal use .
Any purchases will help us offset the costs of closing.
Being the largest miniatures producer in Canada gave us the opportunity to work with many great American companies like Ral Partha, FASA, R. Talsorian Games and Reaper Miniatures. We worked hard to bring a wide variety of miniatures and companies to the Canadian market, as well as our produced own Fantasy and Historical lines of miniatures and games.
After pouring our heart and soul into this business for 50 years, with many contributors and partners along the way, we hope that our product lines and proprietary creative works will continue to be available to the market through other sources, those details are still being finalized. Stay tuned for updates, and thank you for your support over the years, it has meant the world to us.
With gratitude,
Jack Van Schaik

That is a real bummer. They never had the same cache as other old manufactureres but they had some great ranges and have been around since the 70's. I hope someone picks up the figs.

A lot of mini and game makers are mourning them on Facebook, apparently the owner was a great guy and helped a lot of folks get their start.

I have a fondness for RAFM as they were one of the big three companies (along with Ral Patha and GW) when I got into gaming in the early 90s and liked the width and breath of their lines. Honestly, though, I thought they went out of business in the early 00's though and that they just sold off licenses/moulds/masters to others so that some limited production could continue.

Sad to witness another company fading away.

Best of luck for the future and thank you for making our hobby what it is today, is all I can say.

Sad news. Here's hoping they find new life somewhere.

Man, what a shame to see them go. They were an absolute fixture when I first got into gaming.

Wish I'd known. One of the few things that motivates me to buy miniatures these days is the realization that something I want might not be around in the future. Cold comfort to a company going out of business of course.

I don't think there was any announcement.

Indeed, that's the confusing thing. These things nearly almost are accompanied by a wind-down, final-sale, attempt to find buyers for molds, etc. Instead, what little we know makes it sounds like they had to shut down and get out quick, to the point that now they're looking at digital sales of a couple of items to cover the cost of storage and dumpsters.

It's of course the owners right (after 50 years no less...) to keep mum about situations, but there could be many possible reasons related to real estate issues, health, or just a desire to retire quickly.

It certainly seems to have been a fairly sudden decision (some of the companies they were contract casting for seem to have only found out they were stopping a month or two ago)

but looking at FB they were hit by the Canadian Postal Strike over Christmas which blocked their ability to ship (to the point they had to come up with a workaround using couriers),

then tariffs

neither of which would have been good for cash flow combine that with an owner past retirement age and from the speed with which they cleared their work space I suspect they were reaching the point they needed to re-sign a lease (perhaps their landlord wanted a multi year commitment) it may have made most sense to just stop, let things settle and leave selling off their ranges later

It's probably better this way compared with the tortured downward spiral of some other companies that are definitely not as *wink* hassle free as the end of RAFM.

Sorry to see them close. I've some of their 25mm lead figures: BYO gladiators and some Imperial Roman ballistae. Always thought they'd be around.
