First time painting Tyranids! I'm a massive fan of bugs, so I find their more insectoid aspects really appealing and I love hive minds in science fiction. I got mine from the Space Marine board game box and I've been loving painting them so far. I'm young and only very recently got into miniature painting, so I'd love some advice and tips or feedback on my paintjob. Thanks in advance!

They look awesome!! Welcome to the hobby! I think you’re off to a great start, but I’m admittedly biased as you are in fact my son

What paints are you using? The skin might need a light wash to help bring out some details.

The guns are intersting as they are an independent scheme from the gaunt. Nice nod to their separate symbiotic nature. A little busy, but understandable.

Bases look good, but could use some details. Rocks or tufts of grass. Something to break up the space. It’s not as much an issue on the little guys, but on the big bugs there is going to be a lot of empty space.

Hard to tell from the angle, but did you pick out the eyes?

Welcome to Dakka and the hive fleet!

Thank you! I appreciate the feedback. I'm using Citadel contrast mostly, but also one regular citadel paint (pallid wych flesh as a drybrushed layer over the Wraithbone primed and Carroburg Crimson washed "white" areas)
I did pick out the eyes, but it's not super easy to tell in the photos I've taken so far. I used Imperial Fist contrast paint on them, including the eye on the fleshborer. Here's another pic that shows a little more detail:

I really like that. Clean execution and the distinction between Gaunt and gun is nicely done. If it were me I might add some alien or blackened tufts to the basing but this works well already.

Thanks Ragsta! I appreciate the compliment . And speaking of the basing, I'm testing out some changes! First off, I drybrushed less pallid wych flesh onto the skin to give it a pinker look, per Nevelon's suggestion. I also added some grass to the base, which definitely helps it pop a bit more. This model also has a different rock, this time more of a biological growth. Here are the results:

Here's a comparison shot to make the differences more noticeable:

I'm really happy with how these guys turned out, loving the new scheme. I'm a new painter and open to any thoughts or suggestions, so please feel free to give advice !
