Hello everyone,
I'm trying to work out the color schemes and any unique features of the Krieg 43rd Siege Regiment which I want to start painting. I would do the 143rd Regiment, as their symbols are well documented, but despite being the box art choice for GW, there doesn't seem to be any novels written about them. The 43rd regiment, on the other hand, was the regiment featured in the Steve Lyons novel "Krieg."
The problem is that the book does not describe the colors of the uniforms explicitly. I am getting back into 40k, and don't want to paint my models and have them be inaccurate down the road. Yes, I know this is a bit obtuse and unnecessary, but I find getting things to match the novels I read to be fun.
1. The front of the book has a dark khaki green Krieg trooper, but his right shoulder pad only displays "3rd" which could mean this is an image of the 3rd Regiment or that this is simply the last number of "43rd"
2. The book describes the Krieg baneblades as "resplendent in khaki and black." (p23)
3. Of the descriptions of the Krieg 43rd we are told they are "Each of them wore a dark, buttoned-up greatcoat, through which the lines of flak armour could just be discerned." (p7)
So the best conclusion I have is that this seems to match the book cover, that the khaki is not just for the armor but is for the infantry as well, and that the khaki is darker than, say, the 158th Siege Regiment sometimes on the box art. Part of me thinks that GW might have just provided the artist with an image of the 158th painted model to base these off of, but that wouldn't explain the 3rd on the shoulder.
I have some questions to see what you all think.
Do you think that book covers are considered 'canon' and good sources for things like this? Is it fair to assume the armor pattern matches the infantry color?
I am hoping someone else has some information from other books/codexes that I missed
