Lieutenant General

Crewed by raiders, Skinnie Speeders are small one man fast attack craft. Utilising a technology that seems to replicate anti-gravity, a technique never successfully developed by the Federation, they are capable of astonishing speeds and are used as front line attack craft, relying on their raw agility to avoid incoming fire as they unleash the power of their awesome Constrictor Cannon.
This box set contains two Skinnie Speeders Price: $24.95 Distributor on sale date: 9th October 2006 A two-seater version of the Skinnie Speeder, this vehicle mounts a heavy weapons pintle in its rear hardpoint, enabling it to engage an enemy in a strafing run and then dispatch any survivors as it sweeps past. With a choice of Mass Driver or Heavy Laser in the pintle mount, the Heavy Speeder adds a strong punch to almost any Skinnie force.
This box set contains one Heavy Speeder. Price: $24.95 Distributor on sale date: 9th October 2006 So much for the idea of maybe using them an an alternative to the Rough Rider models for my Imperial Guard army.

Rico: Deodorant Bottle attack, Sarge!!!
Sarge: Jesus H. Hubbard, Pvt. Rico? Can't you tell that those are the new Skinnie Jetbikes?! They replicate anti-gravity, a technology that confuses us!
Rico: I don't think the skinnies like to be called that, Sarge, it's kind of racist. Besides, they are as big as I am, and gosh, Sarge, papa always said I was a runt! I miss you, papa!!
Sarge: That's enough bellyaching, Rico, haven't you heard that there's a war on? Turn your sorrow into a spike of hatred, and use that hatred to stab the guts of your foe. 'Sides, Cougars are inbound from the Oliver North, ETA 5 minutes, so we ain't gonna do much fighting. Yep, we're going to be standing over the smoking wrecks, smiling for the Prop-Feed in no time. On the Bounce, son!!
Rico: Pre-Emptive Actions rule, Sarge!
Sarge: That they do, lad. That they do.

I'm not a fan of them. they've got a really sleek high tech looking hull with some industrial weapons glued on the side. The two different styles don't mix.

I doubt Gamesworkshop's were much better 'back in the day'.Lets be honest a fledgling company like mongoose isn't gonna produce top quality models. Taking this into consideration. For what they are, they're pretty good. So they have cut edges and out of place looking wing guns. If the side guns were painted in the same style as the rear cannon on the Heavy raide they'd look better and why don't you clean up rough edges.and the like. Plus i like the faces. They look like stretched out Tau faces.

Taking this into consideration. For what they are, they're pretty good.
After watching She's Gotta Have It, I said "That was pretty good, considering Spike Lee only had a couple hundred thousand to play with." And my friend said, 'I don't buy that argument. By that argument I could make a sucky movie on Super-8 and then we'd have to say, 'Yes, but it's pretty good considering he only had $25 and didn't know what he was doing.'" And Mongoose is still going to charge me full price, right?
But IMO they are an improvement on the rest of the Skinnie line. The secret of life is to set expectations low, kids! I could actually see these speeders working in sort of Flash Gordon/Victorian Sci-Fi game. Mars Attacks!, you know, that sort of thing. That's what the whole Skinnie theme reminds me of anyway. But it doesn't seem to fit with the other Starship Trooper things.

Well....these could make eldar vehicules with some VDR rules and plasticard. Lop the guns off and perhaps you got some new necromunda weapons or stuff to mount on your gun servitors. But they seem to be getting better latelly.
overall,i like their terrain much more than GW stuff,it looks more real and like actual terrain, not a flocked board

Mhhh...Eldar convertion?
A little bit of work and with a Guardian pilot this thing could look pretty neat. But looking at the price, i also get two Jetbikes, so... not sold on these guys.
But definately an improvement over the other skinnies. The faces seem, while being emotionless, better than the ones of their comrades.
Never thought I'd say something like that.

Two problems with that: 1: This isn't 'back in the day' Mongoose may be comparitively new to the world of miniatures, but the industry is much more competitive than it was when GW/Citadel were starting out. A lot of Citadel's early models were pretty poor by today's standards, but were pretty good for their time. With the overall higher standard of miniatures these days, there is a lot more pressure no companies to produce decent quality work. 2: Mongoose HAVE produced top quality models. Take a look at the bug range. Most of it is outstanding. Even some of the MI range is reasonable. And the Skyhook shows that they certainly are capable of producing decent vehicles when they try. The problem isn't lack of ability. It's simply lack of consistency.

I seriously think you should re-post this as "SST Jetbikes!" and see how many people who open the thread mention the skinnies. When I saw that it was Skiinnies, I was predisposed to cringe.

The Skinnies aren't terrible, if you take them for what they are, i.e. retro sci-fi aliens. The only problem is that they exist in a universe of hard sci-fi Space Marines. And Socialist Aliens Who Ride Super Space Robots(but aren't Tau). The Bugs, however, are fine.
I agree with Moopy, the mish-mash of artistic styles is out of place, and, frankly, quite dumb.

Hmm.....Jester, the Mobile Infantry are closer to the Tau then the Forth could ever be, even socially speaking.
Anyway, after the Skimmers are released, all that remains is the Venerable Marauder, the Cabal, and the Brutes, and the brute calvary.
This doesn't count what's comming in the update book comming out in december (or at least december-ish timeframe).
