Can the template from the inferno cannon be positioned in any direction as long as it is in range. Or must it be a straight line, the wording isn't quite clear to me.

As long as it's in range, you can place the template in any direction you wish, "realism" be damned!

It can be explained as realistic, if it really matters. Thinks of it as a swirling mass of flames and fuel, and placing the template in a certain way is representing the most dangerous portions of that fireball.

It is very realistic for the template to be placed sideways if yout hink of the Hellhoun's turret 'sweeping' from side to side as it fires.

I don't honestly give a damn. I just wanted to clear it up for anyone who had any qualms about what they considered realistic.

What someone considers to be 'realistic' and what actually is 'realistic' is not always the same thing.

Sorry to be a nit picker, but the rule says you have to place the template over as many unit members as possible. So there is some limits to the way you can place the template.
