Stone Crusher 'Fex http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/carnifexw.htm I say its nice.Looks solid enough, crushy and evil. I like the tail a little less though, its unfitting.A little info on what it can do: Carnifex (85 points) + Crushing Claws (25 points) + Thornback (15 points) + Tusked (10 points) + Extended Carapace (25 points) + Toxin Sacks (6 points) + Tail Weapon â?? Scythe (10 points) + Rending Claws (3 points) = 179 points. Alan has told me that this beast could get up to eight S10 attacks when charging! 8 str10.sounds good A lame reshow of the drones.Nothing good or even paint: http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/dx-4.htm Show and Events: http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/shows.htm

I'm very (x2) sad that the giant crushing claws, which look kickass imo, aren't or are hardly useable if your Carnifex is standing upright like mine does. Even the demolisher mace(what is it's real name?) will look funny if modeled on a standing carnifex.
I'm not sure if I'm alone on that one, but the crouching carnifex looks pretty stupid in my opinion, especially the melee ones, so i woudl have loved to see some posability there. Well...another "maybe" Forgeworld buy down the drain i guess.
This is the only Carnifex which looks decent in the crouching position, maybe it's due to the not-stubby-crushing claws...the plastic ones are rather unmenacing, so small compared to Old one Eye's...

Schepp, I'm wondering if you can't be pleased or won't be pleased. The figure is quite impressive looking. Obviously, making it stand tall would be silly, thus the charging posture. I don't play 'nids, but I bought the Carnifex specifically cause the model is one of the cooler ones GW has made. I've maxed out one for melee and I've only got to convert all the biomorphs from the varous heads and it'll be good to go. No, it won't win any games, but it will be damned cool looking - assuming I don't botch the conversion - and that's the whole point. Now, I see that you can buy the bits for the Stone Crusher in pieces without all the rest, so I'll most likely be picking up the Ram Carapace and Scythe tail cause they'll look soooooooo sweet on my melee monstrosity. I don't care for the wrecking ball, and while the wrecker claws are nice, I've already costed out for crushing & scything claws so I won't be buying these. As far as "maybe" buys, the only thing that prevents me from buying the Malanthrope and Trygon is the fact that I'll never be able to paint them in a way that'll do them justice. Oh, did I mention that I don't play nits?

fair point... I'm pleased with the model per se, but am unhappy that the claws and other stuff won't work with a upright standing carnifex. I DO think that the shown carnifex looks very very nice and i think this is due to the fact that the claws were sculpted in way that they fit in two weapon slots. Fitting two weapon options in a crouching carnifex normally makes the mini a bit too crowded for my liking. I have to agree though, that the current Carnifex is a impressive looking mini. I feel your Trygon and Malanthrope problem... Greets Schepp himself P.S. maybe,maybe...i will get the kit anyway. Why not have some variety in an army?...

I was kinda hoping it would have special rules, something like 2D6 attacks, instead of the normal D6.

If charging isn't your cup o' tea, then the next option would be to make a pose where this thing is tearing something apart, like a vehicle or a wall. You wouldn't need to model a whole vehicle, just some scraps or metal bits being hacked apart by the claws. If you go with the wall option, you'll want to pose the 'fex against an upright book or something to proxy a building to get the pose right and then put steel/lumber bits it the claws to show a wall being crushed. It might not look perfect in the back of your army on turn one, but when it hits a building it should be okay.

Looks pretty cool. I'd have liked to see a different head, just for fun. Although it's not like the kit is lacking in the head department. The rehash of the drones is a disapointment- a really useless release for the Tau. *sigh* There's always the next newsletter... but recently they've really failed to get me excited about the new releases.

rending claws on a carnifex?? That has got to be the dumbest thing I have seen put on a fex. Nice model but I just cannot get over how dumb it is to put rending claws on a carnifex. I mean seriously, rending claws on a carnifx!!! What were they thinking!!

They were thinking that if you roll a 6 to hit you don't have to worry about a 1 to wound. Watching my friend's fex roll 3 6s on a charge and 2 1s on the wound roll we all shook our heads. It getting owned by the powerfist marine felt wrong. It's still dumb, but there are occasional uses, like when you have 10 or so attacks. That and it was cheap. I would have gone with the scything talons though.

And of course, you can just use the big claws as crushing claws. Then you use that carapace with the big smashy things on it and call them scything talons. That's what I'm going to do. I'm glad I haven't painted my carnifexes yet -- these are really awesome, and the claws in particular blow away those weedy claws that came with the model. Schepp, you may like your carnifex in a "catching the frisbee" pose, and that is your right, of course, but I think the new crouching fex is a big improvement over the old standing one. It fits in better with the other non-synapse Tyranids, and it looks like a huge hulking animal. Anyway, that's what the new model is, and of course new bits will be made to fit the new carnifex.

Hehehe...more like "catching the guardsmen", but I've never said that the "stupidly grinning carnifex" was better than the actual one. I just want a Carnifex being bigger and taller than every other bug in the tyranid army. Don't ask me why...
Agree on the Crushing Claws, though.

I'm not, but even I know when I'm being pandered to. Am I to be led to believe that there is any range of motion on those things? I understand that you don't need much dexterity to bash down a wall, but doing anything with those stubby hamhocks is akin to playing basketball with T-Rex arms. Sloppy, FW. Sloppy. [shakes head] As an aside, anyone who has a wiffle ball bat and a large size jar of petroleum jelly in their underwear drawer might need some help. We're not judging you, K. We love you.

Wow. Looks good, I'm pleased to hear that the bits are available separately. What I'd really like to know is, why are Tyranids the only race that FW never seems to make a bad model for, and why didn't GW let the FW guys do the regular 'nid miniature range, they just seem to get bugs.

The right amount of modelling and you could make them look calcified as if they had developed chitin based on petrification. And then you have a reason to buy a lot of the GW rock model!
