If I'm in some woods, I know it counts as Area Terrain, slows me down, and I know you can only shoot/see 6'' into it from the edge. But what about out of the woods? If I've got some troops in there about 4'' in or so, how far to the outside can I shoot out? 2'' past the edge? Nothing past the edge? I'm kinda' befuddled.

A unit in terrain can see up to 6" through the terrain they are in; if there is less than 6", they can see whatever they would normally see in that given direction. Basicly: 6" or less = no sight problem.

As a rule of thumb, the designers do not hide "easter eggs" in the rules. If clever reading is required to unlock some sort of hidden option, then it is most likely the result of wishful thinking.

Because Kroot can see through 12" of wood if they don't move.

Actually by the new rules they can always see through 12" of area terrain, moving or not.

oooh ok, sorry wasn't familiar with kroot rules one other question, when suffering a Perils of the Warp attack from say, failing a test after killing something with a daemon weapon or a psychic test, it says you recieve an automatic S6 hit with no saves, but this does mean you still roll to wound yourself, right?

Yes, it still has to wound, so the daemon can whiff it and roll a 1.
