I'm taking Tigurius, and he gets to choose 2 psychic powers after deployment... So, I'm wondering, what are the optimal configurations to use vs different armies. Here's what I'm thinking. Please tell me if you would change it up somehow: Orks - Vortex, Fury Necrons - Vortex, Fear Tau - Fear, Vortex Marines - Storm, Veil Chaos - Veil, Might IG - Fear, Fury Sisters - Vortex, Veil?? DH/Grey Knights - Veil, Might Eldar - Fear, Might DE - Veil, Fury Nids - Veil, Fury

As a tau player I would hate to see Fear and Fury. You can use Fury to hit units that are out of LOS such as JSJing Crisis teams.
Just a friendly piece of advice, if you are gonna use Tigurius you better have painted and decaled Ultras or expect to get alot of flack from your opponents.

Cool, that's a great suggestion. Since Tiggy's fear is at 24", though I'm not sure if LOS and range will be an issue. Pinning a crisis team would be so very nice, though. As to your advice, there will be NO mistaking my marines for anything other than Ultramarines.

Tiggy only doubles range, not area of effect, so fear is only 12" with Tiggy.

perhaps, but if that is true, the special rule only applies to storm of the emperor's wrath... why would they make a special rule that applies to all powers, if only one could ever be affected?
Anyways, the dakka YMDC jury may have decided that fear isn't doubled, but I am not convinced.
Besides that, I'm looking for an answer to my original question, thanks for your opinion anyway.

Seeing as how Tigurius has a double range you should always be taking powers with range or just take a regular librarian. You can make a regular librarian better at CC than Tigurius so why wouldn't you?
I've only fought a few opponenets with Tiggy but I can rell you that Tau can't stand up to Fear of the Darkness. It doesn't work so hot against Chaos unless you have some other kind of Leadership altering thing. Fear doesnt work to great against Eldar either. Low Ld armies are the ones you want to be taking Fear against and anything else either spend the points elsewhere or make another librarian.
PS Fear of the Darkness is 24" don't let anyone tell you that its not.

Thanks for the insight. I think your right, fear may not be best for eldar, fury is probably better. Whether they take a wound or not they need to test for pinning, I'd love to pin a couple of starcannons as for taking a different librarian, yes I could make another perhaps more efficient one, but I would be stuck with the same psychic powers all day, Being able to choose powers that match your opponent is actually what I find the most intriguing about Tiggy

Well celticpride4246, that's your opinion. Show me where GW has acknowledged that. Thanks for hijacking this thread #$%&. I'm asking about tactics, not your rules interpretations.

Didn't we agree that we weren't going to have this brutal discussion again?

"The last known instance of common sense happened at a GT. A player tried to use the 'common sense' argument vs. Mauleed to justify his turbo-boosted bikes getting a saving throw vs. Psycannons. The player's resulting psychic death scream erased common sense from the minds of 40k players everywhere. " - Ozymandias |

Keep the range discussion out of this thread, this is not the place for it and the tactics can be discussed without it. Just call it Fear and be done with it.
Resurrect the range thread in YMDC if you wish. And to be fair, SunTzu you were the one to bring up the range in the first place, knowing full well that it is a hotly debated topic, so watch the insults and application of blame.

Umm. Eldar are generally Ld8-9. That means they make fear tests on 6-7. Fear works just fine against Eldar. As does Fury for countering skimmers.
Fury Fear is the best combination against Guard, Tau, Eldar, Dark Eldar, Marines, and even Necrons. They are testing on Ld8 but you should be able to get the whole phalanx, and Fury can put a few extra hits on hiding Destroyers, Tomb Spiders and other bits of annoyance.
Chaos, Orkz and nids all pretty well ignore fear.

Take fury and fear unless your oponent is fearless. In that case fury and veil work well. Just remember, you cannot use veil and force weapon at the same time .
