Dont normally post bat reps here but took pictures so thought id share them with you.  I took Angels Sanguine with me (Blood Angel rules for anyone who doesnt know) with the following list:

Reclusiarch with thunderhammer, jump pack and death company
Epistolary on bike with fear/fury, storm shield
Terminators with 2 assault cannons and combi-plasma
5 man lascannon squad with vet serg
6 man las/plas squad with vet serg
6 man las/plas squad with vet serg
2 Assault cannon tornados
2 Multi-melta tornados
8 man assault squad with 2 plasma pistols and vet with power fist
Predator with twin las/heavy bolters, smokes, armour and dozer
Predator with twin las/heavy bolters, smokes, armour and dozer

Game 1 was omega level cleanse against Necrons featuring Nightbringer, Lord with veil and orb, 20 warriors, 8 destroyer, 10 scarabs, 2 heavy destroyers, monolith.

I deploy aggressively with tactical squads and terminators in the middle. He deploys in a nice long line across his DZ, waiting for reserves.

I go first, go after his warriors, losing a tac squad in the process but creating a unit of 11. Eventually his destroyers turn up, basically go for one of my preds, fail to do anything and are reduced to 1 destroyer and 0 heavy destroyers.

The monolith just about managed to turn up in time, rescuing them and stopping him from being phased out. The terminators had managed to get into combat with the warriors and made them run off but the lord veiled them on the opposite side of the table so they could rally before running off the table.

Eventually the death  company slapped the monolith out of the sky, though my librarian and assault squad  got eaten by scarabs and the terminators by nightbringer. Guess if you're gonna die, you might as well get killed by a star god. I manage to just get one quarter and be ahead on VPs to get a minor victory. Due to extra tournament points being available, i manage 15 points and a good start.

Game 2 against traited marines.

Chaplain
Elite furious charging small assault squad with power fist
Dread in pod
3 5 man lascannon squads
8 man double plasma power fist squad
8 man double melta power fist squad in drop pod
5 Sniper scouts and missile launcher
3 Tornados in seperate squads
3 Predators like mine.

Gah, this was a game in which i showed how not to play my army. I split my fast stuff on either flank, tried to take on too much and get chumped by a good player. Mission was gamma take and hold.

I went aggressively after him, figuring my death company could take most a turns shooting and an assault from the chaplain and squad. Woops, slight massive overestimate there
.

Drop pods arrived in my DZ late on and assassinate my librarian. He scores with quite a few things and i manage to scrape 5pts from the game, mainly thanks to his chaplain dying due to my exploding predator next to him.

Game 3: Gamma recon against shooty IWs.

2 cheap lieutenants
2 squads of 3 obliterators
Lascannon squad
2 double plasma squads
Close combat squad
Blinged up defiler
Blinged up vindicator
Blinged up pred with twin lascannon/heavy bolter.

When i say blinged up, i mean daemonic possession, mutated hull, parasitic etc.  With a decent amount of terrain, i just run up behind it then jump out and devlier a turn 2 death from shooting and assault, eating all the obliterators, defiler, cc squad and a double plasma squad.

He couldnt really do much to me and i massacre him 25-1.

Game 4: Tau.

Shas'o with CIB,MP, shield drone etc.
Shas'el with twin fusion, plasma etc
6 stealths
Big crisis unit with plasma and pods.
12 Firewarriors
12 Firewarriors in devilfish
6 pathfinders in devilfish
3 Piranhas
Railhead
2 Broadsides with move and shoot
Solo broadside

Game was alpha secure and control. Most of the loot counters end up on one flank so i deploy all my fast stuff here to stop him being able to advance on them later on. I castle all my tac squads and one pred on the other flank and htey face off with the piranhas (out in hte open), railhead, pathfinders and broadside. The other 'sides go in the middle with the stealths, everything else around a building on the left, facing my fast stuff.

I get first turn and send most things forward. Shooting destroys the fish on the left and most of the piranhas.  His  first shooting phase reduces y death company to three. WHich then eat his middle suits in two combat phases.

The assault squad, librarian and speeders help destroy the flank up close, with the terminators taking out the crisis suits. All thats left is the right flank, which is a stalemate ( i dont want to expose my pred whilst my tac squads are raging) until my terminators get into range (they walk fast when mad) and down the railhead, allowing the pred to take out hte pathfinders and broadside.

End result gave me all the counters and all but the CIB suit dead.  22pts this time.

This put me on the top table for the last game against Ulthwe.

Game 5:

Seer council with 2 farseers with 2 fortunes, guide, mind war and singing spears, 18 warlocks with ten witchblades etc
6 Fire dragons
5 Guardian squads with starcannons
3 Vypers with a mix of starcannons, scatter laser and shuriken cannons on each
2 Wraithlords with EML
Falcon with normal pixie tricks.

Mission is alpha level seek and destroy which i think is bad for me as he has 13 scoring units to my 9, which immediately puts him on a massacre. I figure i might as well go balls out and see what happens. If i lose, i lose.

He stacks his hard units on the left, my assault units are miles away due to pushback and terrain.

We both played quite cautiously at first, i move forward with my assault squad and deaht company, hoping to get in charge range of his guardians and deal with them before getting seer council'd. And then the stupid luck begins. Both the death company AND assault squad rage 6". Which puts the death company in with the seer council and the assault squad in with 3 guardian squads.

The assault squad eats the guardian squads, then helps the death company take the seer council become non-scoring before dying. One lascannon guy gets one shot at the falcon and kills it, even with holofield. Terminators shoot anohter guardian squad off the table then finishes off a wraithlord. My librarian spends the whole game blocking fortune nearly every time and pinging fury across the table, taking out a vyper and a guardian and other things here and there.  In the end, ive reduced him enough to get a major victory. I felt sorry for the fella as his luck was none-existent and mine was awesome in parts.

In the end i finish second by a point. Good fun.

Thanks for the report. From what I could see, you had a pretty nice army as well as the Ulthwe army. Congrats on 2nd place finish.

Where was this at?

No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby.

Cheers fella.

It was an annual event held on the Preston Uni campus in North England. There were lots of other events such as Flames of War, WAB and fantasy as well. In fact, strangely enough, 40k was the smallest event there!!

Lost, but i'll soon find myself!

Da-ang. I play a similar army to you, cept they're painted red and bleached bone in quarters. You seemed to play these guys very well, and i wanted to know how to do that with my army.

I want to know how well the Death Company usually play out for you, and if you give them power weapons or power fists when they come from Veteran Sergeants.

Also i wanted to know how not to waste my points on Troops Choices, as I see lots of people doing that. Like you took 3 squads of troops. How did you think they performed and did they make up their points? I realize that the more squads you take, the more DC you usually get, but is the chance for a DC marine worth an extra squad of marines?

2500+ Marines (Blood Angels)
2000+ IG (...plain i guess...)

Sorry for taking ages to reply, work and all that.

To be honest, i always find the death company to be really worth the 246pts i essentially pay for them. They're pretty hard for what you pay (understatement of the week) and so usually draw quite a lot of fire. To be honest, i used to play it to protect the death company and get them there in one piece. Now in this tournament ive changed my tactics a bit and used the death company and draw fire from my other fast stuff that i send forward, the speeders and assault squad. So i hide them and usually leave the death company to be shot, as long as it isnt in front of loads of oblits or ap3 pie plates, i dont mind. Of course i take the 'free' fists in the unit, it makes the unit be a real threat to absolutely anything. With litanies of hate on the chaplain, they can hunt down skimmers reliably now.

For the troops, well id rather take more fast assaulty stuff. They're ok but they're static firepower which isnt that good nowadays. They're good for grouping together and controlling a fire lane. I usually anchor one side with them and the preds and send the faster stuff down the other side. Or just claim quarters of stuff.

Hope that helps.

Gotta love the "square forests"...

As a rule of thumb, the designers do not hide "easter eggs" in the rules. If clever reading is required to unlock some sort of hidden option, then it is most likely the result of wishful thinking.

But there's no sense crying over every mistake;
You just keep on trying till you run out of cake.

Cool report, but whats with your deployment. I'd get the *four letter expletive* smacked out of me by my friends, for massing my army together like that. Marines armor save is good enough that cover is pretty much worthless. You could have easily set them up out of LOS most times without having the gaggle pack that you did.

MEQ, MEQ, MEQ, Tau, Eldar... sounds about right. Also some pretty sparse terrain for a lot of those games...

And the IW guy came with unpainted stuff?

Great batreps, though. Fun to read.

Went digging through my old posts, and guess what? I've been hating on mat ward since before it was cool

Ive played against and with tau a lot so ive learnt to respect combined fire and combining my army all in one. In the last game it was alpha seek and destroy against an opponent packing a lot more scoring units than me and a lot of starcannons. I felt the only way to win was massing everything so he daren't try and trade off units against me. With a lot of luck it worked. Rest of the games i bunched stuff together to either create a solid firebase (as BAs rage when you need them to shoot) or create an unbeatable close range force on the other flank. Mainly it was down to the terrain, me wanting to create firelanes and plotting the best path to get up close to the enemy with getting shot to smeg first. Unfortunately the pictures dont show that that well.
