Since GW hasn't published an updated FAQ for the new Tau book, I thought I'd post this here for kicking around...

From O'Shovah's special rules on page 45 -

"Crisis battlesuits count as 1+ units in the same way as Fire Warriors..."

What exactly does that mean?

If I give O'Shovah a bodyguard, does that satisfy the "1+ crisis battlesuit" unit?

The book doesn't specify that it must be an Elite choice.

Isn't O'Shovah in a crisis battlesuit?
If so taking him satisfies his own criteria.

Is O'Shovah a 'Crisis Battlesuit Team'?  No.  Taking him by himself does not meet the criteria.

" crisis="" battlesuits="" count="" 1="" units="" in="" the="" same="" way="" as="" fire="" warriors="" "><p"><>

If this is the exact wording of the special rule (can't check that here), it doesn't specificly refer to the Crisis Battlesuit Team (from the Elite section).
So any unit with a crisis battlesuit would fit the criterium.

No it wouldn't, because you're buying a unit and not the wargear that the unit has.

The entry doesn't state "team" Ghaz.  I wrote it verbatim from the codex.

So? He's not a "Crisis Battlesuit" either.

I may be dense here, but who cares?

Why would anyone want to take Farsight without taking a bunch of Crisis suit units? He pretty much limits every other part of your army selection, so what would be the advantage.

In other words, why would anyone bother?

Am I missing something obvious?

Might have to do with being the defender in a raid. You are limited to 1 HQ and 1 elite.
You might want stealth suits...

I'm thinking it meant that the Elite slot XV8 unit that is Crisis suits would become 1+. So you have to have at least him and 1 more suit. Of course if he doesn't count as a commander then you can't use him in a defense in a raid anyway, since you can' take the 1+ Commander, but that's beside the point.

I agree with Yakface though. I'd so totally have 17 crisis suits and 3 broadsides in a farsight list if I could fit them in pointwise. Imagine your opponent's face when you deep strike a unit that can't be covered by 2 ordinance templates combined...

OT: That limitation makes it technically illegal to play a Farsight list unless Farsight counts as the 1+ Crisis commander. That solves an argument on the EoT anyway.

Yakface, I agree with you. The point of playing Farsight is to build the biggest "Gundam Wing" army possible.

Agree with yakface and killkrazy, and now I'm actually going to have to redo my tau to be a farsight list.

It's a shame you can't take more Broadsides in a Farsight list.

Here's another question re: Farsight. I've been reading over the Tau codex and considering building them. When I saw the Farsight rule: "Crisis battlesuits count as 1+ units in the same way as Fire Warriors...", it made me also think that crisis battlesuit teams could count as troops, since that would be in the exact same way as Fire Warriors. Is this crazy? RAW supported? Because the crazy suit list would be a lot of fun, especially if you could use them as troops in that list, as well.

RAW would not support the suits change in FOC it would support that you HAVE to have 1 XV8 "team"

It depends on how you interpret it. After all, FCW are 1+ in the Troops slot, and Crisis commander is 1+ in the HQ slot. So it's not unreasonable to think that Crisis suits, if they "count as 1+ units is the same way as Fire Warriors", can be taken in Troops.

However there isn't a unit called a Crisis battlesuit, it's Battlesuit Team. Maybe GW intended Farsight lists to take up to 5 Monat suits in Troops.

GW's known problem with writing clear and unambiguous rules, may mean that they meant to write "Crisis Battlesuit Teams become 1+". (Though why they didn't just write that is a mystery.)
