I was talking with some buddies while gaming and got an idea for a mobile firepower necron army. It pretty much focuses on long range firepower with a high movement rate. HQ- Necron lord w/ resurection orb and veil of darkness 200pts Troops 10 Necron warriors: 180 10 Necron warriors: 180 Fast attack 5 Necron destroyers: 150 5 Necron destroyers: 150 5 Necron destroyers: 150 Heavy support 3 heavy destroyers: 195 3 heavy destroyers: 195 2 heavy destroyers: 195 Total points: 1465 Any suggestions on this army list? This is just an idea and I want to see if it works or not.

For functionality I have no idea how well it would do, but with so many deatroyers it would absolutely insane firepower and I know I would find it a blast to use (no pun intended). It wouldnt be 1465 as a single destroyer is 50pts so it would actually be about 1700 as im guessing that 2 hvy destroyers for 195 is a typo. With so many points focused into so few models however, your phase out would be a big issue if there were any AP3 weapons as im always moving my destroyers out of resorb range. A destroyer lord would work well if you stick in the middle of all the destroyers. I will have to get some more destroyers and try this.

a squad of 5 destroyers is 250, not 150. Make them squads of 3, drop 2 heavys and add another squad of 10 warriors, and replace the VoD for a destroyer body.

Heavy Destoyers aren't a good option. Look at it this way; for the 8 HD's you have listed you're paying 520 points and they can only fire a total of 8 shots per turn. That is a MASSIVE chunk of your army invested in 8 shots on 8 models that can still be killed as easily as a regular Destroyer. Those units might be cool if you're facing a heavily mechanised IG or Tau army, but are going to struggle to knock even a 6 man Las/Plas Tactical squad under half strength a lot of the time, making it useful only against a vast minimum of armies out there.

how will 8 heavy gauss cannon struggle to bring 6 marines down to half strength? i'm no maths scholar, but 8 bs4 s9 ap 2 hits should be killing 4 or 5 of the squad easy. i agree with your point though. heavy destroyers don't have a high enough rate of fire for their cost to do anything but anything but hunting high vp units

Maybe struggle was the wrong word. My point was, however, that throwing 500 points of shooting at a 6 man unit and only having an average chance at desroying them is just not good maths.
