Ooo... I like that Green Knight model.
Is it just me or are there even more marines than usual amongst the winners this year? I'm not complaining if that's how it worked out; it was just the first thing I noticed when opening the page...

Hmmm.... some notable names and regular haunters of the ChiTown GD were missing this year. Well deserved Slayer Sword for Natalya Melnik, that Fellowship of the Ring is immaculate.
As for the marines, they always do well every year. I am, however, surprised at the dearth of 'nids & Tau though. Ditto with WE in fantasy, though the new giants were unsurprising in their appearance.

Ok, I like the winning 40K squad and all.
But the base provokes an immediate reaction, along the lines of "Have you no shame?"
Geez, it's bigger than all five models put together. And then multiplied by three. *shakes head in disbelief*

Heck, Natalya Melnik deserved the sword if only for all the other statues she won. Except for the spear head I really like the Tallarn.

I've seen the Reaper Exarch with both weapon options and both look like things you can buy in sex shops. A weapon should not look like this, not even a Emperor's Children weapon. -Symbio Joe |

I heart SYR 8766
For all your bravado, if the US Army decided to invade, Wisconsin is it?, in force supported by a heavy bombing campaign for the month before, weeks of shelling from battleships on Lake Superior, and a full tank thrust (crushing the cows beneath the treads), I don't think that your .22 is going to make much of a difference really... Asmodai (my new hero)
At some point these sorts of decision-making skills lump you into the same camp as the Lehman Brothers, the White Star Line shipping company, and mothers who smoke during pregnancy. ---Sour Clams |

wow, Natalya Melnik sure can paint. How many daemons did she get? 4? All with classic models too, none of this cartoony-over-the-top-muscles-bursting-from-NMM-dreadnaughts stuff that has been winning.

It's funny, while I was looking at the various winning entries, before I had actually read this thread, I thought to myself: "I wonder how many posts it will take before somebody makes the expected lame remark tying together the realities that she's female and she has a skill that is in some way related to gaming"
Anyways. There are some really nice pieces there. The terminator squad is quite fantastic, it is very ESDK. I also LOVE Tim Lison's necromancer. My only complaint is that the wizard looks like too much of a yokel. Otherwise, it's a really impressive piece. He has a very smooth painting style.
Also, is it just me or are things "pre-heresy" very vogue right now?

That'd be the influence of the Horus Heresy novels, I think. They've revived an interest in "40K History".
|
As a rule of thumb, the designers do not hide "easter eggs" in the rules. If clever reading is required to unlock some sort of hidden option, then it is most likely the result of wishful thinking.
But there's no sense crying over every mistake;
You just keep on trying till you run out of cake.

Too bad there is no such thing as Pre-Heresy Sons of Horus in black. Abbadon renamed them and recolored them black after the defeat of Horus. And the Pre-Heresy Death Guard has MK VI Bekie armor, not used until after the heresy had begun. Both the squads look nice, just a bit off fluff wise.

I can't believe that we don't get a 360 view of that Hellhound by Nathan Comanse. Seeing GD winners like these makes me feel better about not having picked up a brush in almost a month. I'll never paint like that... so why bother?
